Hi all,

I recently had my alternator replaced at 148k (500 miles ago) because it was at the end of its life and just yesterday I was doing a 1st gear WOT to redline and the battery light came on. I was able to drive it 5 miles home and let it sit over night. Started it this morning and light is still on and the battery has 11.45 volts and is not charging.

Could the WOT pull make the alternator spin to fast and fried it?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

A

Not unless the new alternator was bad.

There's a fuse F15 that supplies 12V to the alternator. Check it's not blown. It's easy to access, in the top of the glove box.

Also, the heavy power cable from the terminal on the back of the alternator could have come loose.

Check the battery! I know it sounds weird, but it's possible for the battery to hold a charge, but draw so much current keeping it charged that it exceeds the duty cycle of the alternator - and fries it. Ask me how I know...
