I have been looking into the Vorsteiner hood. I know it comes in three versions:

- DVWP & Carbon Fiber Vents (dry vacuum woven plastic)
- Single Sided Carbon Fiber & Carbon Fiber Vents (carbon fiber honey comb matrix)
- Double Sided Carbon Fiber & Carbon Fiber Vents (carbon fiber honey comb matrix)

Anyone have any advice on the pros/cons of them? Also haven't decided if I like the carbon fiber look against Interlagos Blue. Anyone paint the vents the same color as the vehicle? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

First question will be, are you going to paint the hood or not. If you are, all 3 are choices. If not, then either CF is fine. If you don't paint it, then you may need to do something on the back (bootlid) to balance the CF look, IMHO. This is more of an issue on the M6 with CF roof where it would just look odd.

So, the highest quality isthe DL CF and is the lightest. On a car like ours, why the hell would you not do the best... problem is its pricey, but again, look at the car you are driving. I just bought the hood for my M6--should be here on Monday. I have a buddy who bought the DVWP (compressed plastic) and it looks good with CF vents, but when its opened you don't really get the same effect of the DL. The Vorsteiner product is good, you just need a good body shop to ensure proper fitment. If cost is the issue, do the SS CF hood.

I got the Vorsteiner CF hood for looks not weight savings, which I think is bogus. According to Evosport in their article the savings was 11 lbs ?
I got the double sided for strength.

And yes IMO the vents left in the clear coated CF will look great against the interlogos blue. Do you have any other CF pieces on your car, like the kidney or side grills? I think it would all tie in very nicely.

The hood gives the M5 such an aggressive look. That's even with the little vents Vorsteiner designed for it. Heck with a small surface area the M3 has massive stout vents.
Go for it. You will love it.

Cheers, M5Ranger...Juan

I got Single sided CF hood...Im painting both sides of the hood white but keeping the air vents CF and emblem inside the hood black... I got a great price so I went with the single sided rather than double sided CF.

$1500 bucks :) (Let me know if you need one as my cousin's shop has an account directly with Vorsteiner)

Pics of it at bodyshop prior to paint.... notice the bulge in the middle, thats what gives it that aggressive look from the front...

I agree, that's what makes the new M3's hood stand out. BD 997, when will your hood be completed? Those with the double sided carbon, did you paint the underside or leave the carbon exposed?
