Hi, I'm in Southern California and I just found a shop called Schiff European Automotive Literature Inc. in the states who can supply me with the original BMW literature pertaining to a 1995 BMW M5 with 3.8L engine. It's only in microfishe format (BMW only offers this in microfishe) and it contains the Repair Manual, Overhaul Manual and Specifications for the 3.8L. Anyone in LA or OC/SD area is willing to split the cost with me? He wants $230 (I can provide receipt of payment of course) for this. I also need a microfish machine or have someone print it out on paper. This way we not only save big money on doing some of the work ourselfs and we don't have to pay dealers/shops to troubleshoot an existing problem. By the way, it's in English only. :D

If you do decide to get this item, then I may be able to help.

Our sister company (located on same site as us) is a microfilm and archive specialist in the UK, and one of their little tricks is to professionally photograph the microfilm and transfer it to CDROM or DVD.

I`d have to see if I could pull a favour or three (i`ve never asked them for anything before), but there is a small possibility I could get it transferred to a CDROM.

I can but ask.

I have a 3.6 car, so I can`t offer any money towards the purchase of the information, but the ability to duplicate it might take the sting out of going halves with someone who then doesn`t get the product permanently.

PM me if needed at some point in the future.

Ivan.

Ivan, it will be nice if you can ask and put it on CD because I have no way of reading it on microfishe. I will be very interested in that and I'm sure Vincent00 and other 3.8L owners in the states will be too. But don't sweat it if you have walk on fire for this (actually I did that once in the Tony Robins live seminar and it didnt' hurt so bad). Anyways, I thought about the "sting" you are talking about and this is my solution. If we all get a copy of the CD, why don't you keep the microfishe? You can do whatever you want with it. Re-sell it if you like. You can use that money to take the person who helped you out to a nice dinner or a full body massage ( I can use one of that right about now). I'm sure no one here will complain as long as we get a copy that is useable and legible.

What does everyone think about this idea? Vincent? Ivan?

Sounds very interesting, would it apply to all 3.8L? I have a 93 M5 Touring. Let me know what you guys come up with as I would be very interested in getting a copy of that CD!!

If you can get that on CD, you can probably me and another 95 M5 touring owner here in Dallas to the list.

Keep us posted as this develops. Sound like the goods!

BMW Repair Manual

The BMW Euro E-34 microfiche Workshop Manual part number is: 01 51 9 780 741. I have version 03/95
Before paying $280 from Schiff European you may want to contact your local BMW Dealer and ask them to order it for you, if it is still avaliable. The Dealer List Price is $19.

Also, to get a complete repair information (overhaul) on a BMW you would need to secure:
Workshop Manual: Remove and Replace parts
Repair Instructions for Constructions Groups: 11, 12, 13, 23, 24, 33, details for inter-assembly repair.
Technical Data: Adjustment and maintenance Specifications.
Nominal Values: Test Measurements.
Electrical Troubleshooting Manual: Chassis Wiring between electrical systems.
Technical Training Manuals: describes electrical systems (functions and signals), limited inter-module block diagrams.

I have the repair-fiches 1(2/88), 3(4/90), 4(2/92), 5(9/92), 6(5/93) and 7 (10/93). I also have fiches for lots of other BMWs, repair manuals, service bulletins and part-fiches - and I would love to have somene scan them.
@Ivan: Please find out if you can get this done and how many films they could digitize for you/us and what this would cost. I would send you the whole bunch of m/f's I have. Just inform me if you have any news.

brgds

Please put me on the list of interested parties. If you buy and can distribute I would like a copy assuming it's not too expensive.

Count me in......I plan on installing a 3.8L into my 1993 M5 US and would be greatly interested in getting my hands on a CD-ROM with all the 3.8L info.....if everyone puts there respective information together, I'm sure you could compilate the complete set as per Rod's list.....(the repair inst., ETM, tech specs., etc.)....or we should contact BMW and find if the complete set(or parts of it) are available....this sounds like a viable and lucrative project......

Ooops, I forgot that most of you don't speak or understand german, and my microfiches all are in german:confused: Nevertheless, if someone (Ivan??) could digitize them it would be great for the german speaking M5-scene.
