334km/h...

It seems BMW hid an "easter-egg" in the limiter of the I-Drive menu ... just to show the driver how fast his car went on the salt lakes...

go to the "Navigation" menu, call the function "Limit" and chose the speed.

let the speed scroll up ... 50 ... 100 ... 150 ... 200 ... 250 (the fastest speed you can SET) ... 300 ... 330 ... 331 ... 332 ... 333 ... 334 km/h - This is where the limiter stops...

and then you'll see this: :M5rev: :M5rev: :M5rev:

Re: why its 334km/h...

Wow, I honestly think that is no coincident. Nice done BMW M!
Re: why its 334km/h...

Wow, 208+MPH! I guess we will have to wait until the V-max chip is released with de-limiter and a nice open stretch of the Autobahn to verify!
Re: why its 334km/h...

Wow, fun :)
Re: why its 334km/h...

Maybe that's the speed the car would start to shake apart, not how fast it could actually go with the engine... hiha

Sorry, I don't believe they will test every single car on a salt lake..
Re: why its 334km/h...

Can the tires sustain that speed? Also, that would look pretty funny on the speeding citation......."Sir, were you driving a car or an aircraft?"!! :hihi:
Re: why its 334km/h...

Please translate the German text under 334 kp/h.

Or getting snapshooted by one of those photo-bas**rd-traps, I bet they will wonder if their camera is alright... A saloon going 334... :7:

And then getting your ticket by mail. "You have been driving 334 km/h, +- 5 km/h. Please meet up at the nearest police station so we can check out your ride." :15:

In my old Porsche 996 tt you could choose 360 km/h (warning limiter PCM I). The high speed of the car was 307 km/h.

i am not very familiar with the iDrive in the recent BMWs. so how fast exactly can you set the limit on the normal 5series to be?

Maximum is 260 km/h in my 530D, but what a difference those 74 km/h make!:M5launch:
Re: why its 334km/h...

You can set the limit to 205mph on a UK spec Alpina B5 (I tried today)...not sure what this necessarily tells you though

There was a program on a couple of years ago here in the UK (5th gear), they tested a TVR and proved that any car going over 178mph or so could not be caught by a GATSO speed camera.

Anybody want to try it ? hiha

Really? I thought the theoretical VMax for a GATSO was 300+mph?
Darn it!!! Now I have to go and make a new video! Oh well... I guess I'll sacrifice:blink:

Be cautioned that this speed set in iDrive is the speedometer speed and not GPS speed. I was able to max mine out just a moment ago at 211mph (this is the indicated speed that DSC disables itself), but then I was able to continue to accelerate to my GPS top speed of 332. Maybe if I tape up my grill and hood, bump up the tire pressure for reduced rolling resistance; and maybe I can top 332kph even if just for a moment. I really believe the the rev limiter was my real issue. I might need a co-pilot to verify this. Any volunteers???
when are you coming to belgium again? :byee55amg
Isnt 334km/h just the theoretical max-speed calculated by the engineers @ M Gmbh with the standard gearing then?
