That's absolutely outrageous pricing. They clearly didn't want the work. So ridiculous. That's all they had to say. For the total price you were quoted, you could rebuild the entire engine.

It’s doesn’t matter at all if the dealer didn’t want to do the work or was only willing to do it if the customer was charged an exorbitant rate. What matters is they were not HONEST about it. The lack of candor and disingenuity makes them inherently untrustworthy. I wouldn’t give them any work at all after receiving such a bullshit quotation. The apologia for the dealer here is absurd.

Right. The very notion that we should excuse the dealer's disingenuity here because none of its techs has done rod bearings and that's a "high risk" job is ludicrous. Just SAY that: "With apologies, that is not a current model, and none of our techs is skilled in that job on that model. We refer that kind of work to [____] who regularly does it. Here is his/her number. Please let us know how it goes if you do have the work done, as we like to be sure our referrals for this kind of work are solid." That kind of candid genuine response builds trust in the customer such that he or she is likely to come back for other kinds of work that DO fall within the dealer's expertise.

We use nothing but BMW bearings with WPC treatment in all of our builds, even the race S62s that see 8k+ rpm on a regular basis.
