I am trying to become debt free and I have too many toys. So, I am selling my beloved M5. To simplify things....Here is the text from my autotrader ad I put together two days ago:

Cars for Sale: 2003 BMW M5 Sedan in RINCON, GA 31326: Sedan Details - 294408657 - AutoTrader.com

2003 M5 (54,000 miles ) $22,500

I am selling my beloved 2003 BMW M5. This M5 has 54,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition. It has been a wonderful car, but I have too many toys and Dave Ramsey says "sell the car". This E39 M5 has been over-maintained. All maintenance has been performed by professionals and ahead of the BMW recommended schedule. It has never been driven in the rain and has always been garage kept. As you know; it has a 4.9 liter, 394 HP, V8 combined with a Getrag Type D six-speed manual transmission. This M5 can do 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and will put a smile on your face.

In addition to the many standard features this car comes equipped with Navigation, Bluetooth, Ipod hookup, and 2 Keyfobs. This M5 has a carbon black exterior and a black leather/alcantara with wood trim interior. Basically, it is ridiculously fast and beautiful.

I am selling my slightly used, but not abused 2003 M5 for $22,500. This is the value listed by NADA and KBB for a 2003 M5 with my miles and options for a Clean/Fair private party sale. The car is in excellent condition. But, it is not show room mint. It has been driven to work, on weekend trips, and parked in parking lots. It is a used car and has very minor wear & tear.

I do not have to sell this car. I want to sell this car. But, to the right buyer. The right buyer is someone that (a) will love and enjoy this vehicle. (b) has a garage to park the vehicle into at night or when it rains/snows. (c) is a car enthusiast. I define a car enthusiast as someone that buys too many car magazines, participates in an online car forum, is a member of the BMW CCA/SCCA/or other car club. And finally (d) promises to accelerate around all corners.

I am not trying to be a jerk. I just wanted to have a good time selling the car. FYI - I will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability. :)

**Also, Here are answers to the most common questions I have received from the ad in the past 48 hours:

A. I will send better quality pictures to your email address if you are interested.
B. The cosmetic flaws are a minor key scratch near the key hole, one bubble on rear window tint, paint scratch at bottom of passenger front ground effect near fog lamp from scratching a parking space curb, light fading of the leather, and rear view mirror tint is fading. No stains or tears.
C. I have had the car for a little over a year. I absolutely love it, but I am shooting to be debt free in three months and the extra car has to go. I replaced the clutch last year and also resurfaced the flywheel. Tires are Nitto NTSSS Extreme ZR with 10,000 miles on them. Brakes and Rotors are in good condition and have not been replaced. Car is in great mechanical condition. Nothing wrong. no error codes, smoke, leaks. Feel free to have an expert check the car.

D. The car is 100% stock except the Ipod adapter I had put in by the dealer. All fluids were changed when I bought it. Then OEM changes every 3k miles or 3 months. I use 10/60 because it is the only way to go! I have my service records and you can call my mechanic.

E. I know of absolutely nothing that needs to be done. Obviously there will be future maintenance per the M5 schedule.

F. I don't have the rear pull up shades, parking sensor, fold down seats, or winter package .

G. I do have M-audio, Bluetooth, Ipod adapter, and Navigtion.

H. I have the CarFax report and will email it to you.

I. I am not the original owner.

J. The price is pretty firm. I am not trying to be a jerk about negotiations. I just think the price is pretty reasonable and I don't really like to haggle.

Best way to reach me is at 912.663.2993 (c) or robert_bendetti at comcast dot net. Please leave a message if I don't pick up and I will get back to you later in the day.

I am not interested in haggling so I decided to list the car at the low end of the range I will accept.

If it's not gone by the end of the week I'd be shocked. Were I in the market, I'd grab my BMWCCA membership card and fly out tomorrow to pick it up. Great price assuming all checks out (and it sounds like it will).

Good luck with the sale (though I doubt you'll need luck).

BTW the NADA, Edmunds and KBB all under-value the good E39 M5s. Those prices are better suited for 4th-5th Owner 90K plus M5s that are all over the place.

I understand that the buyers do look at those pages but the finer examples of the remaining E39 M5s should be priced higher and should easily sell for higher than book values.
Good luck with the sale and dont sell for a dollar less unless you absolutely have to.

Possible Frame Damage

We were all over this car when first listed and worked out a deal with the seller, until we ran the history report:

The owner is a great guy and I was sorry I had to ruin his weekend with this information. He is currently digging around to see if he can find out more as to what happened and how severe the damage was.

The odd thing is Carfax is clean - goes to show you how accurate these history reports really are. The auctions don't mess this info up all that often. It is always is a bad day when you find out that the car you bought isn't what you originally thought it was, especially once you decide to part ways. I wish the seller the best of luck as the car should only need minor reconditioning ($2-3K) if one can get over the history of the car, we couldn't.

@EAG - I'd also like to say thanks. And I like checking out your site occasionally for the very clean cars you offer. You guys sound like enthusiasts. However, I also have a question.

Commercial use of this forum is not allowed at all. -- this is what is posted at the top of this section. Were you going to buy this car, then resell?

Isn't that commercial use? Or maybe I've got it wrong?

Edgy - Thanks, we are devout enthusiasts - we started EAG to fuel our passion for M-Cars both on and off the track. We are very lucky to have turned our passion into our career.

We are a supporting vendor of M5Board. Furthermore, use of this board wasn't used to pursue this car (not that there is anything wrong with this since we have donated to M5Board), we simply posted up a fact that buyers should be aware of before making a purchase decision. I don't see where the commercial use comes into play when looking out for fellow M5Board members interests.

Anyway, this is getting off-topic and isn't fair to the seller.

Good luck with the sale!

CARFAX Vehicle History Report on WBSDE93473CF92954

Doesn't carfax offer some sort of buy it back guarantee? If so I would assume they missed this and if someone bought based on carfax clean record would they have a valid claim?
CarFax and Auto Check are not the end all be all for vehicle history. Even when something is reported its always wise to have it checked out because it could just be a simple front bumper respray. My old M3 had 10k worth of front end damage (close to totaled) and it never showed up on the CarFax report. These are simply reports generated from police reports, insurance claims, etc.

I would never a buy a car counting on the CarFax Buy Back Guarantee. That would be more hassle than its worth. I'm sure they have some high priced lawyers and legal jargon that would absolve them of any wrong doing should a report actually not show something.

I agree with you 100% on all accounts. I can't begin to count how many erroneous history reports we have seen over the years both showing inaccurate information and/or the complete lack of moderate to severe accident history. To me, these reports are only useful in mining matters of public record and that is where their utility ends. Sadly for us, these companies have done SUCH a good job marketing, they have scared most consumers out there into believing they are the one all be all and build undeserving trust when considering/researching a used car.

Until 24 hours ago I had never heard of Autocheck.com. I had only heard of CarFax. I have a 100% clean car fax report and I had the dealer inspect the car after I bought it with a glowing report. Tomorrow it is getting delivered to the premier high end body shop in my area.

Additionally, After three hours of searching I have finally found a phone number for Autocheck.com and disputed what I think is an error on their report. I have also started calling all the auction houses in the area that might have sold the car. Honestly, this is really frustrating. I feel like I just lost a job because there is an error on my credit report.

*p.s. the delay in pictures was due to a busy weekend and valentines day. Not a conspiracy.
