I notice that my dash is a little different from that posted by others. I think its the climate control that makes it different from the layouts I've seen to date.

I actually was not on the market for another vehicle, but when I saw this vehicle, I just couldn't not buy it. Ended up paying R85 000(SA Rands) all in. Lot more than book, but I figure a vehicle like this sells on condition.
That said, while fundamentally sound, there are quite a few things to do on it.

Already done:
1) balanced wheels and checked wheel alignment. I figure the Bridgestone SO2 are about 10 years old. They have about 5000km left before needing replacement
2) adjusted throttle bodies to get full 100% throttle actuation (from 75-80% when I took ownership)
3) replaced cracked cap on clutch resevoir
4) replaced both front foglight lenses. A BMW driver needs maximum illumination from these key features
5) checks brakes - all perfect with good life on discs and pads

Still on the to do list:
1) rebuild leaking rear self leveling suspension. New shock units are R8500 each :1zhelp: , but I'm told there are specialists than can do proper rebuild. Will be seeing someone tomorrow
2) going to replace the entire exhaust system. I suspect the existing CATS are partially blocked, after obviously using leaded fuel for a number of years. Standard exhaust is not stainless steel like newer generations. There is visible corrosion on silencers, but not blowing at present. Its my duty to unleash that cammed straight six howl :M5rev:
3) I might source another set of authentic BMW mags like the 17" throwing star or 18" parallel spoke units. That said, I'll keep the turbine units as they are the genuine article. Have not received much positive comment on them except from the spanner boys at HiQ who thought they were awesome (must be the white wall taxi effect )
4) the rev counter background is flaking and will need replacement, I believe they are available ex BMW
5) next service will replace diff and gearbox oils, also cabin air filter.
6) may eventually fit the M tech spoiler from BMW which is the proper 5 series unit
7) will replace the cam chain tensioner with a new generation unit.

Thats about all I can think of at present.cherrsagai

Nobody would ever wonder why! She is just gorgeous!! lovelove :imnotworthy:

I'm so so jealous! :haha: Lucky You! :M5thumbs:
Would You maybe consider straight swap for an 1995 525i manual? :haha2:
It's newer and more economic! No? Why not? I don't understand! :dunno:

As for replacing the original Turbines it will be enough to buy only the throwing stars covers - she will be even more gorgeous! :3:

But please don't put the rear spoiler on her! :nono: :sad1:

You one lucky devil! :hihi:

£7600?

According to www.xe.com and Reuters online converter, the currency conversion website, 85,000 SA Rand is £5601 to £5605 !!

Absolutely stunning car, I wish I was in SA!!

Regards and congratulations.

Stunning car! Please don't replace the turbines! Plenty of other 3.6 owners wanting to look 3.8. The spoiler is called SLOIL-er for a reason. Butt-ugly!

Oh and 10 y.o. tires need replacing ASAP. I replace them after 2 regardless of tread, because the rubber simply dries out. You'll understand when you feel a fresh set.

And getting all the old rubber out of the intake system will free up plenty of power....

Appreciate everyone's advice so far.
Stevie, I'm not sure what you mean by your statement above?

that deserves to keep the turbines! they look good painted white if you want a change!

door cards are not oem i suspect. Either that or they are non-///M parts, but they look too "plush".

don't put the spoiler on!

nice car tho!

Looks like the vote not to fit a spoiler is overwelmingouich
Cancel that off my list.

Remember, this is a SA assembled car. The door cards should be the OEM units. I'll do further research on the matter:p

i do like the spoiler on some cars, but not a white one - obviously just my opinion tho! i like the spoiler on dark earlier cars, i had a sebring with one on, and i liked that, i like them on black ones as well, esp if on t-stars & with narrow lungs.

door cards look similar to the 540i ones, only i think the leather bit is more pleated on those, and doesn't look as thick or cushioned. Definitely never seen those before, they may well be a SA special or something, but they're not on realoem, but then that is not a definitive guide.

edit: here's a pic of the other type of leather inserts on the non ///m models, but they tend to have the non-leather handles...

all of the vacuum hoses under the plenum, probably brittle and leaking. I replaced mine last weekend, along with all of the cooling and crankcase vent hoses.

You could swap the turbines for t-stars and still be authentic, don't go the Mpar route though. And PLEASE do not fit a spoiler. I know she looks a little understated in current dress but try the Tstars first, I think you'll be happy.
