Hope everyone is having a happy new year. Should start by saying the car has ~113,500 miles on it, original bearings, has been with me for a bit over 4 years now, and I have stuck to oil change intervals of 4500-5500 miles, using Liqui-Moly and some occasional zinc additive. Has had clean...

Hi everyone I’ve started the monumental task replacing crankshaft and other parts on my m5 and am making instructional videos of the process and would love some feedback.

First oil change since DIY’ing my rod bearings at 82k miles (87k on her now). Looks like the ACL bearings are holding up fine and the DIY was successful 👍. Time to increase the shift revs and let her sing again 😃😃😃.

Hello everyone, new to the group and actually new to bmw. My father was a Porsche Audi tech and my last car was a c5 RS6 and I Just acquired a 2008 m5....I have to say this is a superb vehicle and I feel the quality used in bmw far surpasses the Audi’s I’ve owned, anyhow let’s discuss my giant...

Hey all, Recently purchased an 07 M5 with 125k miles with unknown service history, 6th or 7th owner. I was extremely hesitant buying it not knowing what has been done besides a starter and a couple other basic things, but it's pretty apparent it's been babied. All interior stuff works...

So, I've got the oil pan off for bearings. Did any of you that did your own bearings clean the oil pan up while you had it out or did you just clean up the mating surface and slap it back together?

I highly urge that anyone considering making a purchase with @jcolley at Fast Attack Motorsports, whether it's for S85/S65 parts or the FAMS tune, not purchase anything from him.. at least not until he can prove he's got his **** together. I placed an order with him mid-December for S85 rod...

Hello everyone, finished up my Rod bearing and internal vanos line replacement a bit ago and finally got the videos edited and loaded up. It’s a 13 part series (yep, 13 parts, lol) that goes from the beginning to the vanos bleed and shows most every step along the way. I also included the parts...

Well after a lot of deliberation and reading countless posts, I’ve joined the other M5 owners out there and had my rod bearings replaced with BE Bearings (running OEM bolts), my car is a 2005 with only 53,000 miles on it but three of the cylinders had top shells showing copper when the factory...

Howdy y'all, I'll be tackling my M5's rod bearings in the coming days and weeks, so I wanted to start a thread to share my experiences and get information regarding this job. The back story is that I bought a 2000 M5 with 170,000 miles for a steal, mainly because it needed rod bearings. I...

In a bold move, I recently picked up a beautiful 2007, SMG, with recent full SMG overhaul, new clutches, throttle actuators, some goodies, but with a huge VANOS issue. The only reason I still bought it was because I got it so cheap. Like... REALLY cheap. I wasn't able to do a vanos pressure...

Hi all, We all know S85 consume oil, and it was due to loose setup of the piston ring. I have been checking rod bearing issue, and today I have learned that the clearance was .001mm which is too tight. Especially, for an engine that uses 10w-60 castrol tws. I am really surprised why BMW choose...

I posted some of these symptoms in another thread, but wanted to start my own, as I am worried to drive the car at the moment. Two days ago I started the car from a 4 hour rest out in the cold rain. I noticed this plastic on metal sounding slap noise. It had a very 'blatty' sound to it. Now...

Okay, I know everyone's in a flurry over rod bearings, and I am afraid that is the cause of this scary sound that showed up last week--but my logic seems to indicate it is not (but if it is, I am not wasting any time remedying it). It is a ticking sound, which is what everyone here mentions...
