My ninth BMW, purchased Nov 2014 with approx 131K miles. Third BMW I owned was a 97 528i, and that was one of our favorites; have wanted another E39 for a number of years, and decided to take the plunge on an M5. Fabulous car, but the miles and years take their toll, and it's easy to let things get out of hand when "bringing one of these back up." There's always something to do!
2002 BMW E39 M5 (Titanium Silver)
All stock. Have done valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, fuel filter, firewall insulation, windshield trim, windshield cowl, coolant tank, oil filter and PS reservoir mounts, PS reservoir, PS hose. The E39 has a long list of well-known pattern failures; the M5 has all of them, plus several unique to this model like the rear view mirror fluid problem (fixed that one too).
Had front and rear seats refinished. Pics are before refinish. Installed E60 shifter and new weighted knob when driveshaft was out for repair. Instrument cluster pixel repair. Repaired rearview mirror (radarmirror.com).
Did a full suspension refresh - wheel bearings, Bilstein PSS coilovers, control arms, ball joints. Hardest DIY project I've ever done because of the scope and no lift. I'm gettin' too old for this stuff.
Wheel and Tire
Had wheels refinished.
