  1. Misfire - fuel filter, CPS, MAF or something else?

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
Congrats man!!! What kind of fuel numbers is she putting down?
  2. Misfire - fuel filter, CPS, MAF or something else?

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
I had the crack welded up before the MAF swap. Guy is an excellent welder, used stainless filler rod, tig, and only charged me "10 or 15" so I gave him 20 since he touched up another spot on the exhaust too. I do believe that it ran smoother-but not faster after he welded that up. The actual...

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
I realize I'm kind of double posting with another forum, but I think when these threads get buried in a few months, the community will get all the info when they only find one of these in a search. grrrrrrrgrrrrrrrgrrrrrrrgrrrrrrr The old BMW's are back in. Car couldn't idle worth a damn, then...
  4. Misfire - fuel filter, CPS, MAF or something else?

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
Completely stock with slightly dirty stock air filters, so I guess I'll take that :trophy_bronze:...err, for a little while anyway. The old BMW's are back in. Car couldn't idle worth a damn, then it threw the SEL during some horrible throttle response. Pulled over and swapped them in a...

Just swapped in the VW MAFs today. After I swapped to the VW's I went from 126 to 160L/h!!! Tests were done half an hour apart. The car definitely needed time to adapt, though. Didn't go WOT for about 20 miles. Car seems to have an idle issue that's getting better. The car is sick fast...

Hmm, I kind of doubt that. After I swapped to the VW's I went from 126 to 160L/h!!! Tests were done half an hour apart. The car definitely needed time to adapt, though. Didn't go WOT for about 20 miles. Car seems to have an idle issue that's getting better. The car is sick fast now. Now to...

DO NOT BUY BMW MAFS!!! They're not bad, just WAY overpriced. Not sure what your budget's like, but when you said it turned out to be an expensive night, it doesn't sound like you know that $60 VW MAFs are a direct swap to our cars. Take the sensor out of the housing (since their housing is...
  8. Misfire - fuel filter, CPS, MAF or something else?

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
I have a similar story. The only other M5 I'd driven before I bought mine was slower yet. Only until I did a 0-60 test did I realize my car was way down on power. Here's a quick test: sport on, dsc off, 2k rpm in first...now punch it. If you're tires don't break loose at least somewhere in...

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
Does disconnecting the battery for sure reset the entire DME? I've heard that it will forget time and things like that, but all the adaptation info is stored in flash memory, so it has to be re-flashed at the dealer....so I've heard

Bad gas? Bad plugs? How many miles are on the car? Have you done the MAF test yet?
  11. Bogging with initial throttle tip in

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
Hmm. It sounds like a sensor response issue. After the car accelerates does it do so smoothly? If so, I'd say either the throttle pedal potentiometer and/or the tps sensors are not accurately relaying their true position. Could be a dead spot at low throttle positions in either. I don't...
  12. Low MAF L/Hr reading = slow

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
Yeah, I hope the new O2's pull through for me. Still running at 126L/h today. Third is FAST - scary fast when I'm barreling towards a 35mph turn with my boot still in it :M5rev: waiting for the last split second to brake. On that same note, I think I'll be putting 275's on the front soon! At...

FORGET EVERYTHING I JUST SAID  Boy, sometimes when you're wrong, you're wrong. The problem is not completely solved, but I made huge progress!!! First, before the good stuff, here's the results of the cold compression test (takes so long to take everything apart the engine started...

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
Thanks for the input guys. I think the big question is how does the computer compute fuel consumption? If it's by injector duty cycle alone, the actual flow through the pump (i.e. dirty filter) won't have an effect on the fuel consumption read out on the dash because as far as it's concerned, I...

Quick update! Do my a favor, it'll only take 2mins. Pop the hood on your (e39) beast and unplug the MAF sensors. Now, look at the connector and tell me how many metal female contacts are in each side. Mine has five on the driver's left to match the five male pins in the sensor itself...

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
I'm digging up this old thread because of how relevant it is to my situation. The fuel numbers compared to that of SleeperE39's are uncannily similar. 2nd gear pull gave 91.1 L/h 3rd gear pull gave 93.3 L/h Incredibly Low!!! Like his, my performance is strongly tied to ambient temps as well...

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
I just read a bunch on the maf problems. I think I'll do the fuel consumption maf test since its so easy, then clean accordingly. I read that KBK had exacerbated hesitation issues in the rain (i.e. high humidity) relating to the maf which could explain why my car runs better in low humidity...

It's good to see that people are experiencing similar...characteristics lets say, not necessarily issues. One thing I noticed after I got a chance to drive it in decent weather, not the swelter of 90deg with 110% humidity is the car doesn't have the issues to nearly the same extent when it gets...

I know it's long, but i'd appreciate the read. You can skip half way down if you've never run a dyno before. Got the shark in the mail today and hope to do before/after dyno runs in both 3rd and 4th gear this weekend :1: Ok, so I have access to a dyno (it is not owned by a performance shop)...

+1 That Kompressor is churning out more ft lbs than the V10 has hp. 512 ft lbs, if I remember correctly. My cousin had one and even though it was several years ago that I gotten to ride in and actually DRIVE!!! - very cool since I was only 19 at the time - I still remember the...
