  1. Post up your M5 as she sits.

    E34 M5 Discussion
None of the upgrades have been fitted to the car yet, but the intake certainly looks good!
  2. Post up your M5 as she sits.

    E34 M5 Discussion
After 2 1/2 years in storage, the need for my daughter and family to have transport at Christmas when they join us from America, prompted the old M5 being pulled out the garage and MOT'd this week. Not that she's getting the BMW I might add! but she can use my Espace and I'll have a fortnights...
  3. Sebring Sienna ....Track Car Project .

    E34 M5 Discussion
I have a similar Gunson device for setting twin SU carbs but with just one vacuum pipe and guage where you hold it over the carb inlet and just adjust one carb at a time to get the same reading on each carb. Do you think each throttle body could be set individually and simply get a common...
  4. Light flywheel- hard use?

    E34 M5 Discussion
Does your engineering company need a 3.6 flywheel to start with or do they now have a pattern to allow them to make copies and if so how much are they roughly? An obvious question but I presume the 3.8 flywheel bolts have a deeper shoulder and so simply cutting a bit off the length doesn't do...
  5. Light flywheel- hard use?

    E34 M5 Discussion
Have done all the threads on 3.6 clutch and flywheel on 3.8 engine and particularly thought Farrells on his engine balance/ crankshaft damper ideas very informative. I still like the idea of going ahead with it as we have a very light flywheel and paddle clutch on a Reliant GTE we have, and it...
  6. Pictures of the Carbon intake.....finally!

    E34 M5 Discussion
Just if it was of interest to anyone, I was coming over to Boston USA for Christmas to my daughter's so I phoned RD last Monday to see if they could send quickly so I could take it home with me. The chap told me it would be $225 plus US shipping costs so I went ahead and ordered. By return email...
  7. Sell or upgrade?

    E34 M5 Discussion
Hanging on to the car is probably what I will do, I just got the insurance renewal in last week and for the M5, a Maestro turbo ( I know I have strange taste!) and an MGF it was only £240 total for all three. While a 3.6 is an option, I am under strict instructions no more playthings (it was...
  8. Craigantlet Hillclimb

    E34 M5 Discussion
Received some pictures which show what I meant about understeer! Thank goodness for PS2's thick sidewalls.
  9. Craigantlet Hillclimb

    E34 M5 Discussion
I don't intend to use this car very often although I do have a spare set of 17' wheels I may put worn tyres on them. The PS2s had done about 50 road miles so they may improve with use.
  10. Craigantlet Hillclimb

    E34 M5 Discussion
Forgot to mention, zeroed the fuel consumption trip and over my runs and hanging about waiting she was getting 6.9mpg! Also on first run the fuel was surging on a long righthander with quarter of a tank and had to put another 20 litres in to cure it.

As a follow on to my thread about changing my water pump, because of major proplems with my wifes MGF engine [cam pulley came slack and bent 4 valves], I had to get up at 5.30AM on Friday to change it before work. Thanks to your help it went reasonably well and the car was ready for Saturday...
  12. Changing water pump

    E34 M5 Discussion
I put an entry in for this Saturdays Craigantlet Hillclimb [a round of the British Championship] only to discover a leak from the water pump. I had to order a new one from the local dealers, Bavarian, who have some very helpful young lads in their stores interested in M5s. Its due in today so I...
  13. Brake calipers for sale

    E34 M5 Discussion

  14. Brake calipers for sale

    E34 M5 Discussion
Yes.I bought the 6 speed 3.8 from ebay discussed here about 5 weeks ago. It has been away for 3 weeks getting polyflex bushes, track rods, timing chain tensioner etc. and I forgot how blisteringly quick the 3.8s are when I got it back on Monday. I assume they are reconditioned calipers...
  15. Brake calipers for sale

    E34 M5 Discussion
If the moderators could allow this to stay up for 48 hours before moving it to the for sale section I would appreciate it. I have for sale a nearly new [40 miles only] pair of front calipers for a non floating 3.6/3.8 car. I bought them from Motermec in Lowestoft as exchange units and fitted...
  16. Buying cars on Ebay

    E34 M5 Discussion
As a small follow on to my latest purchase, this was actually the 9th car I have bought off ebay over the past three years, and while caution is required they have all been as described by the advertisers. The total list is 2xBMW2002tii's, 2xMGBGT's, 2xMG Midgets and 3xM5's although my wife...
  17. My new 6 speeder.

    E34 M5 Discussion
My chipped 3.6 car [yes the one with the conrod through the side of the block- I don't suppose there is a connection?] would according to the speedo do 110 in third but I was sure my other 3.6 [gurmans first M5] would also do it just before the limiter cut in at 7200. Anyway the 3.8 certainly...

    E34 M5 Discussion
As a follow up to the recent thread about this car that was on ebay, I flew in last week to pick it up from Oswestry. The seller had been very helpful and driven up to Liverpool to collect me and bring me down for it although he arrived in his company Merc. so I still hadnt seen the M5 in...
  19. 95 on ebay

    E34 M5 Discussion
The independant was in Liverpool although I cant remember the name [ will get the service book on Wednesday ] but underneath the name on the stamp was 'BMW Specialist'. Used to rally Fiat Abarths years ago and just wondered would it be too much of a coincidence that the Fiat valve shims and...
  20. May have 3.8 engine available

    E34 M5 Discussion
I may have my 3.8 engine and everything forward of the bulkhead available from my stolen and burnt out car. It had a genuine 114,000 miles on it and prior to being stolen it was very sharp and not smokey or rattly. For some reason the fire did not extend beyond the bulkhead and other then the...
