  3. Screw you, Oakland.

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
So I live near Oakland, CA. Thug living means I've got a whole mess of potholes. Twice now, in two weeks, I've hit a pothole and had a blowout. I just watched my M5 get loaded onto a flatbed to go join my Porsche at the same repair shop. Same freeway, but different spot, and different pothole...

Wow. I scrubbed down a full 3/8-1/2" further than that. As a result, I've gone and done the only logical thing one can do in my situation: I registered the lady and I for a track day at Laguna Seca in the middle of January so that I can see how things work with less tire pressure and -2.5...

Not track warm -- 5 miles at 30 mph warm. The scrub marks on my tires suggest that 32 psi would have the tire rolling over to where I would be driving totally on my sidewalls at that pressure.

Oh hey I missed your question about tires. Both my lady and I are running Kuhmo Ecsta PS91 street tires. I ran with 42 PSI in the front and 38 in the rear and it looked like I guessed just about perfect from seeing the scrub lines no more than 1/2" up the sidewall. I ran them in auto-x as well...

Fwiw I have a new battery, alternator, ECU, and both battery leads have been replaced as well. While I'm sure a weak battery could be the culprit I think it's not the draw of the scanner or the dash cam as it is the CPU not shutting down until the power draw stops and that's what is killing the...

FWIW the cheapie Wifi enabled OBDII's documentation says it's perfectly safe to leave plugged in as the power draw is minimal provided the car doesn't sit for a long time or have an old battery, etc.. While this might be true my 2006 M5 clearly thinks any power draw after the car has shut down...

Wow. You're hauling ***!!! I was nowhere near as dialed in. This was the end of my second session. Got passed by a GT-R, had a yellow from a guy spinning off, and then my girlfriend in the blue STI refused to point me by until she got a warning flag from the tower. It's hard to see the flags but...

I wish I could tell you what's in there. I've never owned a car so heavy that such a thing truly mattered. Now, naturally, I'm quite interested. The fade was pronounced and the STI folks seemed to get a lot faster after I started worrying about my brakes which made me tap them even more "just to...

I've got a bunch. Just got home, dead tired and filthy. I'll edit out my ****ups and photoshop in some actual driving skill and post something in 2-3 days. (I did pretty well against the STi's but there was a guy in a GT-R that was putting on a clinic. Just amazingly fast. Same with a McLaren...

My lady will be driving her STi and she's not one to play around. I know she'll be gunning for me for sure. We'll be at Thunderhill in CA. I live by Sonoma and go to Laguna Seca a lot but I've never been to Thunderhill before. From the map it looks like there should be some good straight...

Wish me luck. It'll be against mostly Miatas and Subaru's. I have some serious payback to hand out after running against some of the same folks on an autocross course. They might have kicked my butt when we were all in 2nd gear dancing around cones, but let see how things work out when we go...
  15. Strange issiue alternator/battery

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
Well, yes and no. I had stored the car last winter and while I ran it on occasion to keep the battery charged (no outlet for a trickle charger) by Spring I needed to jump start the car off of a portable battery pack. This seemed odd to me as I had recently ran the car but figured I must not have...

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
That sounds like what I experienced when my voltage regulator failed. I would try to drop it off for service ASAP as the electrical system's wild fluctuations boiled my battery and fried my CPU. I got a bunch of random warnings and my voltmeter showed 10.1 volts while the car was running. It...

I was cruising south from Concord today and had a flat purple E60 with black badges pull up next to me and yell Nice F-ing Car loud enough that I could clearly hear him at 80mph! They had out of state plates so they probably won't see this much like how the bright orange M4 GTS driver I convoyed...
