  1. DIY: How does ionic current controller plug come off?

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
Thanks for the tip; ultimately figured out the entire fastener slides out from looking at the connector in this photo: https://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/attachments/e60-m5-e61-m5-touring-discussion/880064d1537971898-r-r-vanos-actuator-unit-20180923_092533.jpg
  2. DIY: How does ionic current controller plug come off?

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
Hey all, I've got an ionic current controller on bank one that I'm pretty sure needs replacing. I went ahead and bought one and am trying to swap one out for the other while doing associated maintenance. I've already changed all the coils and plugs on that side, that bank's air-delivery all torn...
  3. I Want to buy a BMW M5 E60 should I?

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
In the holiday spirit... If one doesn't get the rod bearings done, but was smart enough to read this forum, what happens while one drives their M5 is the Ghost of Rod Bearing Future looms. Behind every rev, every shift, the Ghost of Rod Bearing Future haunts and taunts the driver's mind waiting...
  4. S85 Rod Bearing Question

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
I got M5 at ~140,000km and tip-top operationally; Blackstone very clean right after I got it. Very careful with motor on start/warm-up operations. If guilty of anything operationally, its too much idling time on warm-up. 20,000km and two more encouraging Blackstone reports later I had VANOS...
  5. E60 (03-10) Want to Buy [WTB] E60 M5 2008-2010 6-speed

    Cars For Sale or Wanted
I've got a black '08 6spd with every option excepting the split-back seat. Everything works, clean dash lights and iDrive. BE bearings with new oil sprayers and pump rebuilds etc. dropped in two months ago. But I'm like you PhillipK, I looked long time for 'right' car and don't want to let it...
  6. Incomplete pad contact on rear pads; inner rust ring on rotors

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
I was very lucky with my car as well; one-owner perfectly OEM stock. It has every option except the folding rear seat, and all those options work and have continued to do so. I should glue a horn on the hood because it seems an actual unicorn that way. With the weather agreeable again, and out...
  7. Incomplete pad contact on rear pads; inner rust ring on rotors

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
Thanks for the tip. I cleaned 99% of the rust off and will see if the hard-bedding you recommend takes care of that last 1%. And advice that essentially consists of "go fast to fix it" is quintessential M - so it must work :grin Also checked out your car and what a nice one (nice plates too)...
  8. Incomplete pad contact on rear pads; inner rust ring on rotors

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
Hey folks, have odd issue with rear brakes after installing new pads. The story: Back in October 2016 iDrive started warning about rear brake pads. Got extra message about minimum thickness after couple more days of driving (~30 more miles on odometer later). Got pads and then...subsequent...

Good luck with your sale, beautiful car!
  10. UK to SFO and LA - 2 week trip

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
Kinda out of your way, but best California coast visuals are north - like really north - up between Eureka and Crescent City along the Lost Coast. Seeing stands of ~300ft tall trees on ridges overlooking the ocean is I think unique to that place. Ditto for elk wandering around on a beach. Fern...
  11. M5 a money pit?

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
M5 6MT owner, every option, when bought it was pristine at 93k. Just crossed 100k. Still pristine. Chevron synthetic 10/60w. Nothing has actually gone wrong with the automobile past the driver's powered thigh-adjuster thing going kaput. Only time I can say it 'malfunctions' is hot-weather...
  12. Cranking too much... when cold

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
This behavior happens to me as well; if vehicle sits more than 24 hours, it chug-chug-chuggs starting up no matter ambient. Car this morning actually turned and turned and eventually gave up trying to start. Ambient was ~20c, last start was this past Wednesday. Pushed button again and vehicle...

Silverstone so good on these cars, especially so when maintained. GLWS, fantastic ride.
  14. what to look for in a used E60

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
I found mine on cargurus.com, and was also willing to drive it 400 miles back from where I found it. The tidbits about buying quality of previous ownership much as the car are spot-on; I've got a 2008 6MT with I think all options. Everything down to most innocuous little gadget on it works...
  15. Rod Bearing Failure Class Action Lawsuit

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
Anyone by chance know of a 'world record' for mileage clocked on the stock bearings? Who's been luckiest playing with this fire? I'm waiting - a little more anxiously after reading this board of course lol - on Blackstone results currently; but almost 95k on stock bearings for me.
  16. Great site for parts for U.S.

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
Went looking for transmission stuff on the site and manual nothing because Europe. Doh.
  17. What do we think of the Chevy SS???

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
I had a tired Grand Am during youthful indiscretion days, and the Quad 4 in the car had no balance shaft due (I am guessing) to one of GM's accountant-as-engineer moves. The car had shaken itself into a complete rattle-trap due to the resulting vibrations by time I had it. It was fast until...
  18. What do we think of the Chevy SS???

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
GM performance machinery of any note for past fifty years is centered around pushrod V8's. What they have done with them is pretty amazing; in power-to-weight and overall thermodynamic efficiency, they are very competitive engines. Among cars naturally sized to that format of engine - midsize...
  19. M5 Jacked!

    E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion
I read this whole horror-story and will never, ever, leave my M in the driveway overnight because of it. And stealing cars is obviously terrible, but what an especially PoS thing to do with an E39 M5 - nobody has those these days unless the car matters to them more than being 'just' a car...
  20. Price Check Guys!! '08 6MT M5

    E60 M5 and E61 M5 Touring Discussion
I just got a black/black 6MT in perfect condition all options for less than $24k - it does have 91k miles though, and I am rolling with no warranty. Took me three months to find The One; and this car is perfectly clean, almost eerie how dealer-new it seems just sitting in it (waiting for...
