I've had the akebono's and hated the cold bite. Low dust was great though, and on multiple stops, once hot, they were decent, but that is not normal street driving. Couldn't wait to remove them from the car. My next set was Carbotech 1521's. They were pretty excellent overall. Good cold bite, lower dust, but not as low dust as the ake's. The rears, had a bit of a squeal once in a while, but otherwise no issues. They wore out this year so I needed another set. I looked at the price and was shocked at the price increase. I ended up getting TRW Ultra's this time. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-brake-pad-set-trw-txc0681#description
They are pretty damn close, but not quite as good as the 1521's. Good cold bite, with dust maybe a little less than the 1521's. Price is nice. I've got maybe 5k miles on them now and am pleased with my choice. Very quiet too. Nice backing plate and packet of good lube in the pack. I use Centric Premium High Carbon rotors.

So +1 on TRW ceramic. I haven't tried them yet, but my local BMW specialist has told me they have been using them on a lot of customer cars with excellent feedback. They like them a lot.
