Ah, so it was you! Haha, I see your car from time to time. Looks really nice and clean. It motivates me to work on the car/upgrade things. Sorry for the delayed response! I've been off the forums for a bit being busy with other stuff.
Real positive experience with those guys. Havent dealt with an independent shop that I liked more- for any of the cars I have owned. The BMW mastertech seemed to be a real knowledgeable guy and there were some parts like the front underbrush plastic- that they let me purchase and bring in for them to install for super cheap. Unforetunately I have sold the M and moved to a larger family car- but those guys are great.
So I ended up having all of my work done at Eurowerks. The guys down there were just plain awesome. The specialize in Porsche and BWM (have a master bwm tech) and are $90/hr. My Brand new OEM clutch is superb- the beast drives better than i could imagine. They also found a screw loose in the oil pan- drilled it out and replaced for free. Needless to say, I could go on and on. If you give them a call- let them know I sent you- really nice guys that obviously know what they are doing and take care of their customers. When I do go to look at additional MODs- I'll look at them and CES. Completely agree with you re: getting the E39 owners together. Maybe we all try to make the next Cars and Coffee (first Sat. of every month) or if it works do something before then.
So it looks like I found 1 more:
GMP Performance: Welcome to GMP Performance "Quality Automotive Accessories"
So far I've had the clutch quoted at Hendrick BMW ($2000) and Eurowise (~$1200). Taking the Beast tomorrow to Eurowerks and will let you know their price.
So it sounds like there are 3 good places to check out for Mechanic/ Upgrade work around Charlotte:
Eurowerks (Matthews)- Eurowerks | Zuffenhaus [ Charlotte, NC Porsche & BMW Service and Repair ]
CES Motorsport (Monroe)- Home Page
Eurowise (Charlotte)- Eurowise Inc. - Specializing in Volkswagen, Audi and European Service
I havent used any of them yet- but am going to price my new clutch with all of them. Will let you know what I find out. BTW- Im thinking of just getting an OEM clutch replacement....are you going a different direction?
Another Charlotte M5 owner here! Just curious where you had your Supersprint exhaust done----i.e. where is local go to mechnic for your Beast? I'm about to use the guys at Eurowerks for a new clutch as they have a BMW Master Mechanic- just curious where you've had success. Thanks and look forward to seeing you around town.
Mine's pretty much stock. No performance mods (yet). I figure I'll take my time with it. I'm really interested in this ESS kit for $10K. I want to see how the stock M5 they are testing it on holds up. It sounds like a great bang for the buck package.
I am also curious to see one that has been modded. I've had two friends who previously had M5's, but those were stock. I'm planning to add bluetooth very soon and possibly the ipod integration. The lighting upgrades would also be nice. Especially the 6000K bulbs and angel eye bulb updates.
I've had my M5 for 4 years now and I still look forward to getting behind the wheel each and every time. I remember going several months before I saw another M5 around town, but the other day, I saw 3 in one day. I have yet to see on in your color though. I've got a few mods on mine, do you have any? I've got a SuperSprint exchaust, BBS LM's, lighting upgrades, Ipod and V1 hardwiring. The only other car I would trade for is a M6, but I would most likely keep the M5 as well.
