What the... problem starting the 4.6is
every now and then once i turn the ignition key i hear
"click" and it sounds almost like the engine is turned just a bit and then all dies- the whole ordeal takes about a split of a second... if you try again it will crank and start.
anybody heard of this?
thanx in advance

AJ:
That is odd. Maybe your battery is low? The 4.6is has a lot of electronic gadgets on it that require a large amount of volts to start. If you battery is not putting out around 16volts at cranking, it may not start the car. Please let us know what you find out.
Moderators, could we move this thread to the X5 section? May be usefull to other X5 owners.

I would of thought it was the car batteru but it appears not. I could possibly be the battery within the key?

Happens to me just about every 100 starts. Just a click and nothing, but the lights do not dim or anything, Next key turn and it starts. Beats me!

Re: What the... problem starting the 4.6is
I have an 02 with 18000 miles that does the same thing. I'm about ready to take it in . I'll let you know what they say.

Re: What the... problem starting the 4.6is
Just got back from the dealer who said they had to adjust the key and how it was fitting-whatever that means.

Re: What the... problem starting the 4.6is
I think it could be your immobiliser relay. Ask your dealer to check if this is faulty. If you have an aftermarket immobiliser fitted (e.g. keyguard unit) this may be at fault.
