Isn't it great? If the X5 were to be your primary sports car, then the 4.6is might be better, but generally people find it to be too harsh for their needs/wants. The 4.4i fits just right and like all BMW V8s takes 10,000 miles to break in - it my be better than you think!

I was hooked on the X5 the first time I drove it at the Ultimate Driving Experience. I drove both the 3.0 and 4.4 and I was in love. Someday, I'd like to test-drive a 3.0 with a 5-speed manual. That should be fun.

They are great machines. Rode in a Calvin's estoril blue 4.6is yesterday with a set of ACS coilovers and eisenhaus race exhaust; looks, rides, and sounds great!

i just didnt find the point of paying 10gs more for the 4.6 than from the 4.4.....to get the same ride and stuff we put the 4.6's rims on the 4.4 with are 20'....those things make the ride complety different.

well, I did drive a 4.6 at the advanced M school- not in the actual school, but I got behind the wheel and floored it. reactions- ride is noticeably harder than the 4.4 non sport and the acceleration 0-50 or so really didnt impress me. Im told its the handling and the 50-90 acceleration that youd see the differnce. forgetting the price issue, my needs were reliable family transportation that would get through the winter well. so for family comfort the sport suspension was out (I think the standard setup rides hard enough and the thing is a higher center of gravity vehicle so why make it into a sports car?) and the sport wheels and tires were out (winter), which would also mean those big 4.6 wheels and tires would be out. for my use, the non sport package, which has the heated steering wheel, works best. believe it or not, I even put snow tires on it because we have a steep driveway and I didnt want to be stuck waiting for a snow plow- and with the all seasons, thats exactly what would have happened as we have a friend with a jeep with all seasons and- they couldnt get up the driveway with just 2" of snow on it!

If it makes you feel better, its a SAV and not a SUV.

        I went from a 4.4i to a 4.6is and I cartainly notice the difference.
