Mark, the RR or other new SUV is the "quid pro quo" for me getting a TT. My wife says she is entitled to new car 1st before i get a TT. She was not very happy when i told i was close to buying a TT as a second car (luv the beast too much to get rid of it) in any event prices on 996 TTs keep dropping--even found an '01 in the high 80s!
Sounds like she has made up her mind on the RR. I think it's a great choice! You should go out and get her one ASAP that way you can move forward on your TT aquisition.

My wife just likes BIG SUVs. also, there are so, so many X5s in this area.
BTW, does anybody know for sure when the Cayenne will be at the NA dealers?
Definately the Range Rover...Looks miles better and with BMW mechanicals and engineering it should be much more reliable than it's predecessor. But I think you should consider the X5. Its faster and more economical to run everyday. So unless you need the Range Rover's superior off road ability, go for an X5. But hey, the Range Rover looks amazing...and comes with an interior which would blow away a Jaguar! What the heck you only live once....get the Range Rover

P.S. Sorry for beating around the bush

Gene, good thought on the G500--even though it's from the dark side. the local dealer has 2 used '02s in stock. wait for a new one would be until july. i will go test drive one this weekend.

The Cayenne has 540 liters of luggage space (with seats up), while the X5 has 455 liters and the Rover has 991 liters. The Rover wins in terms of luggage space.
Nice find Maverick. I looked everywhere for interior space for the Cayenne and couldn't get it. The extra 85 liters just might do the trick. Now the question is Turbo or S. The Turbo has a hefty price premium over the S. Anybody know how the straight-line performance of the Cayenne S compares to the X5 4.6i?

The G and RR are unique in SUV-dom in that they're more well-received than even the best sedans at most high-end social occasions. I mean, it'd take arriving in an Arnage Red Label to outdo the luxo-utes.
Although I've never understood the phenomenon, you've gotta acknowledge and/or respect it. I don't know whether your wife cares a bit about that sort of thing, but it is a plus for either car over all of the other choices if she does.
PORSCHE SUV all the way. Range Rovers resale value sucks. Plus I had a Range Rover Callaway edition 4 years ago and that thing broke ever month, it was like clock work. The Range rover is very luxurious and classy but the Porsche SUV would be a cool alternitive.

In 3000 miles in three months, I've had no electrical issues.
I believe that the figures of 8.9 secs 0-60 mph may be a little off. In 'Sport' mode, my R.R. feels very quick. While I haven't timed it, it has NO problems accelerating; merging; passing, etc. I can 'run' at 80-85 mph easily on the Interstate all day long, and still have it change down easily to provide more power for passing. It's no 4.6iS X5 in terms of speed/handling, but its other attributes more than make up for the minor performance issues.
It is extremely comfortable, and in fact rides better than most sedans. Very roomy inside. Construction appears so far to be excellent, with no rattles, etc. Materials, flawless that I can tell. Lastly, it is drop dead gorgeous outside and in, (imho).
Only downside so far; average economy 14.3 mpg.(50%/50% town/highway). But hey, buy stock in BP/Amoco, and no one buys this kind of vehicle to worry about fuel mileage.
