Got 2 months left on my '06 M5 lease.
Was contemplating exercising my buyout.
However, my dealer just took in a mint '05 X5 4.8is.
Its CPO'd, Black/Cream, Nav, 18k miles, for $52.9k.
Was thinking of asking them to throw in the extended maintenance instead of negotiating a lower price.
Buyout the M5 or replace it with this 4.8is?

If you have no kids I would stay with the M5. The only reason I have a 2008 X5 4.8 is for the kids. Great vehicle, but an X5 is not an M5.

I think hes saying the last gen X5 4.8. I think the M5 is a better choice unless you need the AWD, in which case you certainly don't need the monster 20" wheels and super wide rims.

Yeah, I know the question was an apples to oranges comparison.
I guess I was really looking for you guys to tell me to keep the M5.
However, the '05 4.8is seemed like a good stop gap car until something else comes out. Also, I placed an order for the new 135i a month or 2 back, but that order cannot be finalized until around April '08 because BMWNA still hasn't put out final prices.
And to add to the twist, my CA called today and told me of a BMW Loyalty Program with reduced money factors on new BMW delivered before year's end.
CA advised skip the '05 4.8is and get a new '08 4.8i.
Since my M5 lease ends in Jan '08, gotta make a decision.
I forgot to ask if I buyout/re-lease my M5, does the BMW Loyalty Program apply.
Oh, did I mention I like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo also.....

I've got the 2008 X5 4.8i with sport and premium package. It is one very smooth and nice ride. The Porsche was sportier, but the ride quality on the X5 is 10x better. Plus, the dual wishbone suspension on the front shows a lot of promise and a big improvement over the older X5 suspension in my opinion.
I don't think the Cayenne was changed much at all compared to all the X5 improvements. That, plus the included maintenance, made the X5 an easy choice.

Was at the dealer today. Did a test drive in the '05 X5 4.8is and the '08 X5 4.8.
The '05 4.8is has 18xxx miles, is CPO'd in addition to the balance of the new car warranty and included maintenance and the dealer is asking $52.9K. First thing you notice is the agressive exhaust note with the impressive acceleration. Overall not a bad vehicle to use as the family hauler in replacement of my e60M5.
The '08 4.8i is new and the one I spec-out retails for $72K and change. The acceleration is just as impressive but you immediately notice the interior is more spacious and the materials in the cabin are certainly top notch. And overall a great family hauler in replacement of my e60M5 also.
But I'm asking myself is the '08 4.8i that much better than the '05 4.8is?
