X5 Engine Bay

Just picked up our new X5 w/Sport Package a couple days ago.

Very smooth, riding on the 19 inch wheels and tires. Haven't had a chance to put the 4.8i through it's paces, but seems promising so far. I'll reserve judgment on the tires until it's broken in, and I can push it.

I was actually impressed with the look underhood, a rarity these days, where it's typically a plastic boring cover.

Well, not too shabby an airbox, IMHO. And some nice looking functional air intake tubes also.

Thanks Dteray and 7 speed,

Enjoying the new ride. Will give more detailed feedback later - it's my wife's primary ride, so I don't drive it that often, and when I do, the family is often in the car, so the rides are only slightly spirited.

I was surprised that BMW didn't change the look more with the refresh, but it's still a nice looking car, and at least they didn't mess it up. I really like the front of the car, the grille, hood, etc.

I'm jealous of those who lives in the warmer climate part of the country.
I had to swap out the 20s today and swear to god. I think I have to make an appointment with my chiropractor tomorrow. The 20s ARE HEAVY.
RoninM5, does your transmission seems a bit jerky to you by any chance?

Mine is not jerky- but it wants to hold gears a bit too long. Never thought Id say that about an autobox- but going up a little hill- it grabs a nice low gear. Thats good- but then it stays there- thats a little annoying.

I never notice that MEnthusiast, but I found that it's actually quite eager to downshift. Kind of annoying at times.

Seems smoother than the '04 Cayenne S transmission, but still less than 700 miles on the X5.

I used to feel the same way after swapping the 19' back and forth on my Cayenne S for the 18's when I would go off roading.

I was thinking, man, I never used to get this tired swapping wheels. But back in college, it was like 15 inch wheels on a Rabbit GTI...
