20" Wheel Option

About to place order for an '08/4.8 and am concerned about spec'g 20s since have heard they ride harsh, pull more, wear out fast and cost a lot more. Can anyone verify this?

I have 3600 miles on mine. So far so good. Ride is considerably better than my E60 M5 19.

Thanks for the feedback. I have an E60 M5 as well and don't mind the ride at all so it should work.

I had the same question, I am going with the 19 inch on a 2008 4.8i ordered, since it's a family hauler.

But I test drove with the 20 inch wheels and it was much better than I would have imagined.

One thing is that the 20 comes with 315 tires out back, which in my opinion makes it look a lot meaner.
The 20 also comes with fender flare so it gives that distinguished look from other X5.

Yikes. I didn't know about the fender flare...

Damn. 315's on the rear. That's pretty crazy for an X5. That's what my GT has.

I will go look for some photos showing the wider fender flares...

Hmmmm. I wonder if it's too late to change the build order...Ah, my wife would probably hate the 20's anyways, if she notices...

That 315 rear tire cannot be cheap. As they say, it's only money...I'm sure it looks great.

I'll try to get some pics for you over the weekend.
It's not exactly a 'flare', it's more like a lip similar to those E53 iS.

315s will also mean no go in the snow even if they are all seasons. just something to consider- youll probably want a separate set of winter wheels+tires. as mine will be family hauler and see some light snow (not plowing through unplowed streets with 24" of white stuff!) Im going with the 19s and all season run flats for peace of mind.

Yeah, I'll stick with the 19's. Thanks! I think our X5 has been built and is in transport process...

No go for the pics Ronin M5. My digi cam was acting up.
Just to let you know that I have a set of dedicated winter tires on OEM 18s waiting once the white stuff comes.
DON'T think that you'll get by with the xDrive. With 315 summers in the back it'll spin no matter what.
