Monterey Week 2009, Who's going? and Where?

Summer is here and time to be thinking and registering for the various Monterey activities in August. Historics, Pebble beach, The Quail, concorso etc.

What's everyone doing this year?

I, like many, was really disappointed with Concorso last year, but they've again changed the venue, back at a golf course, so do i give it another go?
Pro: nice corral, a known entitiy, but under new ownership/direction
Concorso Italiano - A Celebration of Italian Style

There's a new event La Dolce Vita Automobili at Black Horse. This is the venue that has hosted Concorso Italiano for the past few years, before their move to the airport last year. La Dolce is claiming to be more intimate than concorso, more like earlier concorso italiano. They also have more non-italian cars, with porsche being their featured marque. Their registration is 'open' which seems to mean an interesting bmw could be in the showgrounds as well. This seems to replace the corral parking that concorso has, but if you're in the show, you can't leave until 5pm! If you want general parking, it's off site, and you have to be bussed in. This is kind of a deal braker for me, i'm thinking. Sounds like a pain, but i don't want to be stuck at this event all day.
La Dolce Vita ~ Automobili at Black Horse

What other events do people go to?
The Quail is apparently already sold out...

Mike,
I will be giving the Concorso another shot this yr -even though I swore I would never go again after last yr.
Wel...................I'm eating my words. I'll be taking the M5 and Mini to the BMW corral. It looks like they have made significant effort to get it back to the Quail Lodge days............ I'll let you all know.

I'm also going to the Festorics on Sat - I'll be in the corral there too.

Have to done the ECU on your 535i yet?

Hope to see you at one or both of these.

Hi Barry, i'm thinking that concorso is where i'll be on friday as well. The dolce vita sounds nice, but i don't want to be stuck there all day if i park in the event, and i don't want to deal with the off site parking and bussing in as a normal "spectator".

I'll probably go to the historics on sunday, and plan on checking out the stuff down on the carmel downtown streets earlier in the week.

No software for the 535 yet, i had the high pressure fuel pump fail at 4300 miles (!) so i'm waiting to make sure there are no reliability issues before i start tempting the modification/warranty issues.

Thought I'd chime in here. I will be coming down to Monterey on Thurs and staying until Sun. The SoCal guys are coming and I am arranging a house for all of us. Thinking of planning a BBQ at the house on Fri evening after Concorso. Location to be determined.

We are planning some other events during the weekend. More information to follow.

We should have the M-class corral at Concorso and hopfully our own hospitality area. Looking forward to seeing you guys.

Gustav,

Sorry to hear about your license. I guess it will save some miles for your car. Let me know when you come out next summer. Try around Concorso in August. Here are a few for memories.....

someone today pointed out to me that on the concorso web site, they say for the non-italian corral :

"Because this is a spectator event where people enjoy the vehicles on display throught the day, you WILL NOT be allowed to place your display vehicle any later than 9:30 am (after the event has started) nor may your display vehicle exit the event before 5:00 pm (before the event is over), August 14th 2009."

Wow, this is a bummer. I don't want to stay at concorso all day, i want to hit some of the other activities. In the past, we were free to leave any time. Hmm, what to do now.

There is no way they can lock us in.There is no way I'm staying until 5 especially when we plan to get there by 8am? I'm going and will take my chances to see who will block the exit. I doubt it will be an issue, at least I hope it wont.

i emailed them and was told it is a rule at this venue, because the cars and pedestrians will share the same path. Sounds ridiculous to me. I told them i don't want to be in the corral then, and plan on swapping my corral pass for a pair of general admission tickets. Going to go to the bmwcca event in the am and then come over to concorso later.
