What is a car clinic?

Terrell,

You know... it's when you've had one too many unsavory females in the passenger seat and the beast catches a "bug". Well, then you have to go to the car clinic for a shot.

Mountain Run Update!!!

Just to be clear, the mountain run is this Friday, March 9th!!! I'll create a new post for this as well as send PMs, text, and emails. The last vote was for Route #1 which was the longer route that takes us up all the way to the Tail of the Dragon, Deal's Gap, and of course the Cherohala Skyway. I have a route that will even take us through Highlands so we can take the photo next to the waterfalls.

If everyone is still okay with this route we should leave the Alpharetta area by 7:00 am since the total trip will be just over 450 miles round trip. Yes, it will be an all day trip which means we'll get back around the same time we leave if we get lunch at Tail of the Dragon and fuel up there. This should keep us out of any traffic both ways. I suggest we meet at the Shell station on Old Milton (Exit #10) of 400 at 6:45 and head out by 7:00 am. Here's the address to the Shell station:

3325 Old Milton Pkwy, Alpharetta, GA 30005

Dustin, can you bring your walkie talkies? I'll bring mine as well so we can stay in communication throughout the trip. I'll also bring some copies of the route so everyone is clear where we're going in case we get separated. Let me know if this works for everyone.

We've bounced around a few ideas for the mountain run, but we haven't come up with anything definitive. My plan was to have this settled during our meet this Saturday at BIP. Here's what I think our best options are:

- Since logistically it will be better to do a run during the week, most have requested Thursdays. Please pick either March 8th or March 15th. As I mentioned before, March 22 is probably too close to the Florida airport run on the 24th. I'm pretty sure I'll be in China that week anyway

- If we meet up in Alpharetta (exit 10 on GA-400)we can head straight for Dahlonega. I've outlined two potential routes that I think we can do in one day.

- Route 1 will take us up Hwy 2 (NW) through the Chattahoochie National Forest, to Tehico Plains. This takes us across the Cherohala Skyway, one of the best stretches in the mountains. We could then head up Hwy 129 towards Dragon's Tail. We can have lunch at Deal's Gap (junction of Hwy 28 and 129). After lunch, either head up and do a loop of Dragon's Tail or head back and hit Hwy 74/19 toward Dahlonega. If we leave at 8:00am from Alpharetta we can be back by 6 - 6:30 depending on how fast we're moving since there won't be much traffic. This is about a 375 mile trip with lots of twists, turns, and elevations so not just a typical road trip

- Route 2 will take us North on Hwy 19 then we can break off onto Hwy 11 toward Helen. This takes us into Clayton where we have the option of going North on Hwy 23, going East on Hwy 2, or going straight onto Warwoman Road. Warwoman Road gets very interesting toward the end with the twisties close to Pine Mountain. Once we get to the Highlands, we can head west on Hwy 64 and have lunch in Franklin. On the way back down, we can take one of the alternate routes at Highlands that we didn't choose coming up just to keep it interesting! If we leave at 8:00 am from Alpharetta we can be back by 4:00 - 4:30 at the latest. This is about a 300 mile trip with almost as many twists, turns, and elevations

So take a look at the map below, think about which route and date you'd prefer and get back to me. Let's get this thing planned so everyone has ample time to take off work and have some fun with the beasts!!!
