Autocross at Tire Rack, Windy City BMW

Hello,

Ok, I know I am a bit late with the pictures. Been quite busy with work as of late and had to upgrade my flickr account to hold the amount of picts to upload.

On the weekend of June 7-8, I participated with the Windy City BMWCCA chapter at an autocross held at Tire Rack. This the sixteen year. It is a blast. They have a pretty neat tests track that gets setup up. It is not very fast due to its being short, but it has been setup for a lot of fun.

Here are a few pictures from the event.

A couple of the managers have M5s.

A new M3 was ready to go.

There was even an Alpina Z8 participating. He was really smoking the tires too.

Here is a link to the rest of the pictures from both days.

Both days were great except on Sunday, you'll see that we had a bit of a weather issue. Midwest was in the midst of getting really pounded this spring. Tornado sirens went off and everything, but we actually finished the last session and got packed up before the rain hit.

Storm clouds are bad, umkay.

Nice Kenny!! Thanks so much! Nice to see your track addiction coming along nicely too! But did I miss it? Where are the pics of you and your car!?!?!

The weather was crazy back in June around here, wasn't it? Now remember it's "supposed" to be good practice to try driving in the rain every now and then (hopefully with the proper tyres and such LOL) but I don't know what a tornado would add to your driving (exept to maybe encourage you to learn how to accelerate hard in the opposite direction from it LOL).

OK what event is on tap next?

Thanks for the report! I enjoyed your picture link also. That approaching storm front sure looked nasty though. Like Anita said, where are the pics of your car?

I sure hope so Dave!!!

In the mean time I'm trying to talk as many people as possible into coming up to Road Am for some upcoming events--this Fri August 1st is a test and tune date/enduro (I'm not doing that LOL) with NASA (regular NASA stuff on Sat and Sun), Northwoods Shelby on August 15-17, and Badger Bimmers Oktoberfast September 5-7 (the 5th is for advanced/instructors only as far as I know).

Anyway, hope to see a few of you there?!?!

(PS I'm back driving my '01 M Coupe for a bit because of this dumb thing I did a while back)

Take care all!

I um...

Well, you see, it's like this... I...

pht, pht, pht,... (this is the sound of me searching through my picture folders of the event).

Dang it!!!!! Two days of autocrossing and I completely forgot! I didn't even find any on the Windy City site. I'll have to slip the camera man a brew or something to get some coverage.

I did take some in car video of the runs. That I am still trying to edit as I did multiple runs on each take and I just want to split them off to make them a bit smaller and more manageable. I'll have those posted soon. They didn't turn out to bad. The course was only a 45ish second course though.

I was actually pretty happy with what occurred during the timed runs on Sunday. My first run was about 52 seconds and I shaved it down to a smidge over 47 seconds for the last and final run. The results are posted here.

I realize that I can't compete with some of the smaller nimbler cars, but I am really there to enjoy myself and consistently improve and understand what I can do. Just having a blast.

Here are copies of the track layout for each day.
