Wow, straight from a South African magazine:

A Southern Cape family took photos of the three sensational Bugatti Veyrons. The Greeff family, Marianne, Derick and Annette, spotted these cars on the scenic coastal route between Betty's Bay and Gordon's Bay.
The photos also show that there are special stickers on the Veyrons, which read: "High speed test vehicle - Approved by Government." This indicates that the cars are in South Africa for test purposes.
The Veyrons was first spotted earlier this week on the Cape's West Coast and then a day later another Wheels24 reader saw them in the Overberg district on the N2 near Grabouw.
There are no badges on the three test vehicles but it is unmistakably Bugattis Veyrons.
The Bugatti Veyron is the hottest car in Volkswagen's arsenal. It features an 8-litre W16 (2xV8) muscle engine with a power output of 736kW at 6_000 rpm. Torque is a mighty 1250Nm.
The car has a top speed of 406km/h and accelerates from 0-300km/h in less than 14 seconds!

The performance figures say it all - that is one mad vehicle

I never saw the rear of this car before.. and man.. it's ugly.... what's up with that ricer wing... it better be able to retract down when you're not going fast... :p

the problem is, they don't know how to make a car lighter, so they just make a HUGE engine...a W16? What the hell kind of engine is that...car companies need to start making lighter cars for higher speeds instead of heavier with more power. I think alot of car enthusiasts would go for those kind of cars more.

The performance figures are obviously good, but they needed a 1000HP just to beat the MacF1 that was made in 95? and it doesn't beat its top speed by much (10 MPH).

i would take Macf1 over this beast any day...its just too bulky and big and heavy.

The top speed of the Bugatti is 406 km/h - the McLaren 'only' does 386 km/h - at this level of the game aerodynamic laws dictate that you need way more power for only a slight increase in speed...and a car's weight has very little effect on topspeed...so a more powerful, heavier car will ultimately have a higher topspeed than a less powerful, lighter car.

But I agree...I would rather see a lineup of lightweight, less powerful cars...

I'm not real sure how heavy it really is, but I'm thinking it's pretty light. It's 100% carbon fiber and aluminium. They used the best and lightest materials they could. I heard somewhere it was like 2800-3000 lbs, or something insane like that so, that power to weight ratio is absolutly crazyness!!

What is even more mind boggling for me is that this beast has enough power to outdo both two M5's plus say a Geo Metro.

Makes me think of the saying..."absolute power corrupts."

When you thought twin turbo's were enough, they have to come out with Quad turbo's in one car...these french people are nuts, but who can blame them, this should be a hair raising experience like nothing else on earth!

Can you imagine taking off in a 747 and seeing this thing pull away from the plane on the highway next to the runway:eek:

One interesting facts for those who just look at
top speed, it's interesting but the point where
there is most resistance which is basically an
exponential curve is mach .99 mach 1 being
the speed of sound. Anyways sound informs
air that there is an object heading towards it so
it builds up density creating basically a brick wall,
in other words if you could use something like
nitrous to get past mach 1 you would be set.
On the concorde it uses afterburneres from
there it just flows. Hope this helps, thats why
they need 1000HP note weight is not that big
of an issue at that speed the Cf is an issue
which is friction caused by the wheels. As I said
it's exponential so it's a rather nasty curve of
resistance, in butt reality terms it's more or less
like hitting a brick wall of air.

Remember Gordon Murray works for the "dark side" ..

He is currently refining the MBenz SLR.. but yes, he did a fanaastic job on the F1.. a car that has yet to be surpassed, 8 years after it was released.

And, coming from South Africa, the car hijackers do not randomly take cars.. they usually have an "order book" which they fill for their clients.. Unfortunately, they care little whether the owner / passenger are killed or not.

Reality check: 0-200 km/h (125 mph) in less than 14 seconds is more than respectable... :confused3
I think the Veyron will be much quiker than that, since the Porsche Carrera GT will do 0-200 km/h in 9.9s with "only" 600+ps

Hey, this is interesting:

Bore x stroke = 86mm x 86mm
It's actually the same bore x stroke as the E36 M3-3.0

And the engine is not overstressed at all at 125 ps/l or equals to a 375 ps M3-3.0 engine (if turbocharged).

The only thing I don't like, other than styling, is the 4WD system. Not a nice car to do a quick 0-60 unless you want to cook the cluth, especially with a torque numbers like that. Have you seen the Murc vs Zonda video with JC? He had to gently let the Murc roll a little before giving it full acceleration from standstill.

PS:
What is Audi doing testing in ZA? Are they really desperate to lose three prototypes? :D Lucky they drove it in the nice Cape Town area, not Jo-Burg

Oh yeah, as much as I love the unique layout of the Mac F1 interior, this wins......so lovely.....note 7 speed transmition.

And the wing does completly retract. The two tone paint is so classy and fitting.

It has the Direct Shift Gearbox Transmission that uses twin-clutch system (used in the new Audi TT and VW Golf R32).
There's no clutch pedal in DSG, so not much worries about burning the clutch.
