When my auto wipers are activated the intermittent speed increases and decreases automatically. If there is enough rain then the wipers switch to continuous wipe....

Rear diffuser aka parachute!

Looking at the design of the rear diffuser on our cars and it looks to me that it acts like a parachute trapping airflow and causing drag at the back of the car.
