Which car???

Hi everyone, Longtime lurker, first time poster here. At least as far as asking for help. I'm getting ready to buy an M5, after several years of not owning a BMW car. I have been lucky enough to own several 3's, 5's, 6's, and several R/RT motorcycle through the years but this will be my first M car. I might ad, like a lot of you this moment has been a life long journey (at least since 1988 when I saw my first M5) to acquire a Beast.

My dilemma is my inability to chose between a common sense approach to purchase the best vehicle and my passion for selecting the car I will visually appreciate more. Here are the two cars i have narrowed it down to.

Car 1) 01 Royal red/Tan with 45k on the odo. completely stock condition, new clutch at 33K, 2 owner car located in Florida all its life. No warranties in place. Clean car fax and the remainder of the service history looks avg. for a car its age and mileage. price is 35K firm.

Car 2) 02 Le mans blue/Tan with 29.9K. Stock, no mods, no history of any significant repairs or problems, clean car fax. Price was 42k talked down to 40K firm. No warranty. 2 owner car in Texas all its life.

Heres my problem, these are the two colors I like best, Royal red and Le mans Blue, in this order. Am I placing too much emotion on the selection of the car based on color? All things being equal is the extra 5K dollars worth a year newer car with 15k less mileage?

I know, its left brain Vs right brain, form over function, etc, on this but I would appreciate some input from a distance as I feel i'm just too close to the equation to make a rational decision. One thing i do know for sure....there is no lack of opinions on this forum!!

Have at it, and thanks for supporting the rationally challenged

me personally as i like both colors equal and if your spending that much another 5k isn't that big an issue i would go with the year newer and lower miles but that is me. if getting the blue one though won't make you happy then you have to get what will make you happy

On color alone i would go with the Blue one. While I am partial to blue, i do think it looks great on a e39. Good luck with the decision and keep us posted.

You will get more opinions if you post this to the E39 forum.

The most important factor is the condition of the car. If the condition and care of the car is the same, then get the color you want the most. If you have searched on the board, you know what things are important when buying a used M5.

The 2002 will get you the lower mileage and automatic headlights.

Good luck!

Thanks guys all info is appreciated. I'm leaning towards the practical side, which is what I normally tend to do. I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything here.

Looks like blue it is...at this point.

5k more for a year newer and 15k less miles. Both cars being in equal condition, I'd go for the Blue.
