New DINAN exhaust must go!

Well, thanks for all your comments as I struggled with my $1,700 mistake: installing Dinan mufflers in an attempt to quite my 2002 M5 that has headers, race cats and a x-pipe installed. Here's a summary of what I was dealing with.

1) Stock exhuast was too quiet: http://www.angeleyesusa.com/bmw/stockM5.mp3

2) SuperSprint Magnums with Headers, race cats and x-pipe seemed to be too loud: http://www.angeleyesusa.com/bmw/ssMagnum.mp3

3) Dinan mufflers (supposedly the quietest of aftermarket exhausts) were supposed to be the solution. However, when I switched out my Magnum Supersprint for these Dinan mufflers, my definition of LOUD changed instantly. Here's the Dinan mufflers in place of my Magnums (with headers, race cats and x-pipe in place): http://www.angeleyesusa.com/bmw/dinan.mp3

BOTTOM LINE: The DINAN's are too loud for my taste. I've put my SuperSprint Magnums back on, and I'm selling my Dinan's on eBay. If you know of anyone who's looking for a new Dinan exhaust, send them this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=200074933352

Would these have any advantage over the stock cans if nothing else has been done to the exhaust?

Most definately -- In sound that is. You won't get any real performance gains unless you add headers and such. Do a search on this forum and you'll read that the Dinan mufflers are typically tuned for cars without headers and x-pipes, to give them a more sporty sound.

dinan mufflers are designed for use with headers, but definately are designed to keep the stock resonators. The resonators cost no power and reduce, uh, resonation, so dinan keeps them in place. Not sure why you didn't just put the resonators back on. I had the supersprints with x pipe before the dinan mufflers and think the dinan with resonators is a much nicer sound, with less in cabin noise, than the magnum mufflers/x pipe. Sound quality is certainly subjective though. Dinan mufflers and no resonators is definately loud.

Yes, the Supersprint x-pipe replaces the stock resonator.

Few questions........

Sorry for my ignorance but why is one inlet shorter than the other? Anyone who has seen Dinan cans offer any input?

What is the mileage on the cans?

Are you willing to ship to CANADA?

Thanks

I thought the X pipe simply replaced the "H" pipe and was more free flowing since the cross on the "x" allowed gases to get out quicker. I didn't remember the resonators as part of the H pipe. Guess I will have to take another look underneath.

Jerry

I think it's just the photo angle, they should be similar.
