Hi, can I ask if you've managed to change it to the new style wheel?

Yes he has, there was a pretty detailed post on the main e39 forum. Straight forward swap.

Hi

I was told by my dealer that my car has a single stage airbag and therefore the controller would set off the two stage airbags on the new style wheel.

This does seem to make sense (from my limited understanding) but I will have a look.......thanks

yes, that was what alot of people said, but after taking off the old wheel and checking the connections etc, it works fine, I'm fairly sure your car has to be build 03/99 or later for it to work.

Quickest way is to check the colour of the sitching, red and blue=2 stage airbag system.

BTW: old wheel has been sold.
thanks

The stitching is red and blue but the dealer told me he'd checked the system and it is a single airbag system. Are you sure about this? I presume then there are wheels like this without red and blue stitching?

If your car was built after 3/99 then youre able to retrofit the new steering wheel and airbag. If it was built before 3/99, then you have a single stage airbag and it wont work.
