For Sale - 2003 LMB

Yep, here goes another one!

After much consideration, I have decided to sell my Beast.

I purchased the car from a gentlemen who used it for a road trip vehicle for his daughter's college inspections/interviews. He bought the car new in March 03 and I bought it from him in November 03. It had 14,000 miles at the time. It now has 27,000 on the clock as it is my daily driver. Since owning the Beast, I have never lit up the tires, tracked or crossed it in any way. I do choose my spots to enjoy what the car will do, however. All parts are original and the car has never had any maintenance or repair issues other than scheduled except for the elective surgery I had performed.

The original owner had a K40 laser/diffuser installed at the Stealer. It has front/rear detection, LED's mounted in dash and on/off switch mounted under the dash. It works very very well.

Soon after buying the car, I replaced the exhaust with the SS x-pipe and Kelleners cans. I love the sound of this car.

I also installed a 3M clear bra on all the forward areas, behind all 4 tires and on rear bumper at trunk lid.

Even tho the Dinan stage 1 software does not add much more than improved throttle response, this was added as well.

Being a rock n roller (even at my advanced age) I installed the aux input for my ipod. It also includes the proclip mounting system.

Following the lead of many on this site, I installed the IATS relocation kit. I cannot tell you that I notice a seat of the pants difference, but I do subscribe to the theory behind the change.

I have never had any codes appear as a result of the mods performed.

The factory options include the following:
PDC
Fold Down Rear Seats
M-Audio

The Beast is LMB exterior, Full Caramel Leather inside with Wood Trim.

Over all, my Beast is in excellent shape. Garaged and detailed regularly. With the exception of a few rock chips and a minor scratch repair made by original owner, the exterior is mint. There is some minor curb rash on 2 of the stock wheels and I installed 4 new PS2's 2,000 miles ago.

I do have some photos posted on this site, but if there is any interest, I would be glad to shoot more.

Thanks in advance for your consideration

Oh yeah, the price.

I am asking $62,000 as it sits.

Re: For Sale - 2003 LMB

Ok !!!

it's been 5 days, 94 views and not one post or comment, mm.

I would appreciate some feedback even if you are not interested in buying, so tire kickers welcome. One thing this message board does not lack is an opinion. It is what makes this a great place to hang out.

So,

Is it the price, is it the color, is it the miles, is it the season, is the mods, is it the lack of mods, what gives plz?

I obviously cannot do anything with the color combo, I could return to stock (except K40 would leave a hole in the dash), no sense in adding more mods at this juncture. I guess I could throw in the Ipod and call it a mod

I just posted some recent pics which I'm sure Gustav will have up momentarily. He does such a great job here.

So there it is. I am not thin skinned so let me have your candid comments.

Regards,

Al

M5 Fever:

I think your car and price is "Spot On!" On this site you will get TONS of Lookie-Loo's.
IMHO ... That's why you haven't gotten any bites. I also think some are truly waiting to see if they can handle the looks and the price of the New M5 ... and that is just your timing.

I also have a '03 ... Carbon Black w/ Imola interior with only 8K on the clock. I wouldn't dream of selling mine for less than mid to high 60's.

It will take a little time and don't get in a funk over it. It's getting to be Property Tax time (That's a bad thing) as well as the Holiday season is approaching and that's a good thing.

Good luck.

Good luck.
This is pretty accurate as most who are on this site HAVE one already. I think that this is a great place to post in parallel with a general car sales sites. For example, I didn't know about M5board.com until AFTER I bought my car. If this is true for me, I don't extrapolate to the entire population, but I am sure my experience represents at least some buyers . . .

BTW, if I were in the market, you would have heard from me by now. Good luck! Kevin

Re: For Sale - 2003 LMB

Price is too high given the miles.. check out the used cars with that mileage and you'll see one advertised at $53k and it hasn't sold- with 30k miles.... once the miles get past 20k why not buy a 2002 with less use? I'd venture that that sub 30k is priced like a 2002...

Mods are a funny thing- once the mileage gets up there the mods become more of a negative. Put all those mods on a car with 8-12k miles and you can get 60-62k. Add 15 to 20k and take off 50 cents a mile...

MHO

Ard

PS Like the interior- not the ext! See, personal taste is a funny thing...

Re: For Sale - 2003 LMB

Thanks all for the comments ! This is a great sounding board.

So, I read the comments, do some research and number crunching, throw out some highs and lows, throw out some comments I don't agree with, throw out some comments that I agree with and make some assumptions and here is my net net.

My asking price is too high.

Some of the mods add value, some don't.

The color combo, tho subjective, leans to the conservative side

There are other venues better suited for car sales (but tonight there were 29 members on board and 93 guests), makes for a great parallel.

I will sleep on this data and prolly post a revised price tomorrow.

Thanks again

Fever ... Remember One Important Factor ---

When a true buyer is going to spend between $50,000 -$70,000 for a used M5 ... a few thousand dollars is not going to make or break the deal for him. If this buyer LOVES the way your car looks and he/she can visualize themselves in it ... This car will be Sold!

That's a great point- as a shopper looking for that .match made in heaven' I agree.

But that 'sweet spot' is the combination of a few items: car location and buyer location, mileage, color/mods, price AND OWNERSHIP HISTORY.

As original owners (or maybe 'majority of life owners' if you picked it up early) you must market the 'emotional factor'.. this is an intangible, but the only way to differentiate your M from 5 other identical Ms. (Not that there are 5 LMB/Caramels right NOW)... I've passed on a few that had 'questionable' pedigree- just don't want to buy a pig in the poke.

These are emotional purchases and you need to connect with that desire with a customer... these are not 'well heeled buyer walks into showroom and says 'wow, I'll take the black one''..
