Seems Arlington BMW took in a 2003 M on a trade at their Audi affiliate- unfortunately it had been in an accident and had a quarter panel repainted. They originally advertised it, but now decided not to sell it.
Arlington states they are going to send it to auction 'tonight'.
They state they paid $57,750 for it.... and would sell it to me for 58,750. I passed.

Just FYI. (Let's take a vote on whether or not this repaint will be disclosed...)

PS Another Sterling Grey 2003 M5 got wholesaled from an independent to CO BMW for a reported $57k (5,500 miles)
The blue was discovered to have been in an accident and had a quarter panel repainted. The salesman claimed that they, as a BMW dealer would NOT sell it with this re-paint. (Sounds like a bit of a load to me, but that's what they said.)
The second one (gray in CO) had been sitting at an independent dealers for 4 months. He was asking 68,900 not cpod. He got tired, I made it clear the market was dropping and come winter he would find it tough to sell it in Denver. (He got pissed at me... ) He wholesaled it to COS BMW for a reported $57k (didn't bother to call me, the twit), now THEY are selling it for 69,800...well, that's what they are asking. (They've had it on the lot for a week and the salesman tells me 'we have three offers and one deposit'. We'll see...
The fact is, outside LA, SF and NY it is not that easy for an independent to sell these cars. And the spread between trade in-wholesale-private party-dealer retail is $10-12k!
Let me- I've been tracking these and others...

Thanks Ard. It sort of makes sense, I guess. I suppose the demand for M5's is slightly less then supply...and we enthusiasts who want very specific colors and options are able to pass over 95% of the ones on the market. Interesting.
The world of 'M5 owners' is NOT this board! Thinking that way will give you a very distorted view of the market- if this board represented the market they'd all be selling at a few k under original MSRP.
Of course my fear is that I've been passing up deals looking for my colors- and when I find it, it will be at Sonnen BMW!

That will be bad.

Ard, I would not wish this on my worse enemy--that is that you find your dream car at Sonnen. I wrote about several negative experiences at the dealership, although to be fair, others had pleasant experiences there. Everyone is rather "edgy" there, exuding the self importance that only Sonnen sales and service advisors seem to exude. They think they are doing you a favor even talking to you, much less working on your car for $120/per hour. So, if you find your dream car, hopefully it will be at Niello, at a realistic price point.
That's exactly why I used that name as an example. But you could use many other dealerships - it seems this attitude is pervasive at other shops as well.
I'm hoping that by being persistent I will find it before the dealer gets there hands on it...
