Pretty Highly Modified 03 M5 for sale

Hi guys....That unfortunate time has come to try to sell my 03 Imola Red and Black with aluminum dash, DVD-NAV, M-audio, Rear sun shades (27000K miles) so I can try (to begin) to pay for a DB9 due in a month.

I purchased my car new in December 02. It has been garage kept and has no flaws. I have receipts for all the mods and would be happy to discuss them.

Mods include:

Kelleners 83mm sport exhaust - imported directly by me and installed by automotive specialist.

Dinan stage III suspension - with camber plates, Koni's etc. from BMW Gallery in Norwood, MA

Dinan front strut brace

AA Cold air intake complete with metal brake duct intakes.

UUC Short shifter
BBS LM wheels from tire rack (19 X 8.5 F & X 10 R) with Goodyear GSF1's

HIDS4Less stage II low beam and fog light XENON's (fog lights are not installed but will give them to you....I got tired of the warning light on dash....see threads)

Passport SRX radar/laser detector with laser 'shifting' built in. >$1500 installed, very strong though.

replacement would cost approaching 90K I will consider reasonable offers and invite anyone to Washington DC area (Alexandria to inspect/drive the car). Would like to sell by end of September. Will not sell parts separately. BTW - I have original wheels/tires which will be included. Other parts went to trash.

congrats on the DB9! Too bad your letting the beast go. You can expect to get about mid 40's for her.
Good luck...

Mid 40's for an 03?????I know prices have come down, but I don't think that much. Even with high miles, it is still under full warranty and full maintenance. I would think $60k ish for this one (if one likes the color combo).............but I guess the marketplace will tell us shortly!!!
Regards,
Jerry

Nigel,

I am also hoping to sell a modified M5...sterling gray 03, less than 10K, DINAN CAI, air mass meters, 345 differential, and stage 4 download. Car is perfect and would take 70K.....doesn't seem to be much interest at that price.....there are a fair number of low mi 03s out there at dealers in the mid $60's with no mods...I think a lot of people equate the mods with abuse....I personally think one on a dealers lot with 3K miles is much more likely to have seen some abuse, (break-in remember?) inexperienced drivers and sales people trying to impress a client and over revving (REMEMBERING THE TEST DRIVE OF AN m3 SOME TIME AGO...IT WAS UGLY!)......my car has never seen the far side of 6500 RPM and never been over 90 MPH

Anyway Nigel, I am in central Ohio, maybe we should get together for an M5 garage sale some weekend.

good luck and all the best!!

Rebel.. me thinks you are smoking some good ol' crack man.. even a 2002 will fetch more than 40's..

I was offered 58k as a trade on my 03.. Kelleners exhaust, Rogue SSK and Eibach sway's front and rear.. and 7,700 miles. And I did not even try haggle.

I see no reason why either of your 2 cars should fetch much less..

Good luck!

Re: Pretty Highly Modified 03 M5 for sale

Hey, let me know the date for the garage sale.... (sorry, couldn't resist)

I've been shopping for a while, as a few of you know-

My perception is that there are really two channels with drastically different prices- dealerships, who get their cars from repos or trade-ins (from people who aren't interested in selling privately), and then $6-8k lower there are the private sellers.

My perception is that the private sales are advertised at closer to dealer pricing, but close at much lower (closer to trade in values). Dealerships know that sooner or later someone who doesn't care about the extra $6k will walk in. They can afford to sit on a car for 4 months (and there are a few of those out there marinating)

The mods are a tricky thing. Newbies equate mods with no warranty, or abuse. Or perhaps the best thing about mods is the whole process of researching them, evaluating, purchasing and installing... there are no two cars on this site with the exact same list of mods- all tastes are different. Buying a pre-modded car eliminates this personalization- plus how do you know the particular mod is THE BEST for you. (The latter is my category - plus I am picky on the interior color.)

I think there is a parallel with home sales- sale by owner works great with some buyers- you cut out the useless realtor and both save- but some buyers (or sellers) are uncomfortable with that. These cars are so new and so expensive that having a dealers 'stamp of approval' (cpo'd or not) is important to some. (It may be as useless as having a realtor involved )

And finally, my perception is that there are more 2002 and 2003 M5s in the market and prices are getting a bit softer. This is not unexpected- I wouldn't say there is any kind of major drop occuring- just a gradual decline.

Anyway, prolly stating the obvious...

Ard

PS M -Power.. big difference between $58k and the asking prices for some of the 03s I've seen on cars/autotrader/etc.. 70k, 68k, even 65k... I think the value of mods goes to zero, unless you find the perfect buyer.

Was a typo, should have said mid 50's. For a private sale I don't thibnk you'll get much more than that. Prices are tanking with the anticipation of the E60, even if it's butt ugly.

Oh.. I agree.. I think on a car that is mint.. then 55 - 60k is a decent offer..

Anything lower than that becomes a question of how desperate one is to sell.

I would imagine that if buying say a DB9, that thetre is enough regular interest from Joe Public (wealthy Joe of course) to buy the car that the dealer need not offer a decent trade. However, say with Porsche trying to blow off the last 996's, one might be able to get a beter price from them..

Anyhow, all acedemic until I try sell mine.. then all logic is out the window..
