You mean - arent they installing red light cameras now everywhere?
They are popping up here all over Washington State and California. Why? It is a big money maker for the local government.
In the UK, when I travelled there, I asked locals why they have posted signs on the highway that said "warning, speed light cameras ahead". I asked doesnt that defeat the purpose of catching speeders?
Get this, their answer blew me away.
They said "The purpose of speed light cameras is to SLOW DRIVERS DOWN and not to make money from it.
Whoooaaaa!
Here in the US, they are installing them as they are a big money maker.

Interesting. I saw a special on TV recently that they were removing these from a lot of cities. I know where I'm from (Charlotte, NC), they are removing these from the city. They were originally a private company who split the profits 50/50 with the city. I may be wrong, but I thought these were becoming extinct -- maybe just where I live. Cool little gizmo though!

I remember reading somewhere that there are red light cameras being removed on some cities because the government got sued by the locals and they had to take them down.
The local people proved that the city is actually rigging the traffic lights reducing the time it takes from yellow to red in order to catch more people so they can make more money.
