This is the last of the handbuilt M5s that were brought into the US. Less than 1700 cars were delivered to the states between 91-93 and 93 is considered the best year* (only 261 models were sold in the US).
Black on black with black tint and black stained maple wood trim make this one nice looking car. Polished throwing star wheels and brand new Falken tires help get the 310hp 3.5 liter Jim Conforti chipped power to the ground. Loaded with all the options. Okay, so there was only one option on what was originally a $63,660 sedan - heated seats. I've got a stack of reciepts for the car going back to 93 including a copy of the original sticker and BMW marketing brochures. The car is mostly stock except for an aftermarket in-dash CD player with iPod connection, the JC chip, high-flow cats and polyurethane suspension bushings.
Although the chassis has 171k miles, the motor has only 90k miles. I had a head gasket fail and pulled the motor only to find out that the block was cracked. After searching for another block, it proved easier to find a whole motor. So I bought another S38B36 and installed it.
The car is a great driver but not a museum candidate. I will try to describe any issues as best I can, but feel free to ask questions. The exterior and paint are in good shape except for a small dent in the hood. The previous owner said that the fan shroud came apart and dented the hood from the inside. The dent has been touched up with paint but no repairs have been made. The driver's side seat bolster is torn from wear. In the pictures you may notice that the gray front lip/splitter is cracked. I have a new splitter from the factory and I will have it painted and installed for the new owner if the auction gets over $8000. Otherwise I will simply include the part for the new owner to install.
I also have a rebuilt and valve adjusted cylinder head from my original motor that I will include with the car for an additional $1500. I still have the original block, pistons, oil pan and other misc. parts that the new owner may have if interested.
Overall the car is a solid driver and can't be beat for under $10,000.
*The major differences in the 93 were:
-M System II ("throwing star") wheel covers replace M System I ("turbine") (Mine are polished)
-M-Technic side rear-view mirrors in place of the standard 5 Series versions
-Shadowline exterior trim in place of chrome
-Front exterior door handles embossed with "BMW Motorsport" text
-Birds-eye maple wood trim added in either a gray or black stain (Mine is a stealthy black stain to complete the all black look)
-M tri-color stitching added to the airbag steering wheel rim
Located in Boise, Idaho. $8500obo
