THE CAR The car is a SUPERCHARGED, 2001 BMW M5 and I am the original owner of this highly modified one-of-a-kind daily driver. Besides the supercharging (which yields 653 HP at the crank and 540 HP at the rear wheels – see Dyno Chart), there are a ton of other modifications which make the finished car an almost “clone” of the Dinan S3 E39 M5 (which didn’t exist when I started the project of making this car.) There is a big difference though which is that if you were to try to duplicate this car through Dinan, you would first need an M5 (about $24,000 for an ’01 with my mileage) and then you would spend $70K for the conversion plus the cost of shipping the car back and forth to Dinan. Therefore, it will easily top $100K to recreate this car.
CLAIM TO FAME The car has been featured in both CAR and DRIVER and BMWCar Magazine in 2004. At the time, my car made 500 Rear Wheel Horsepower -- 40 less than it does today. Also, the car had different wheels: Breytons that I sold right after I gought the much lighter Dinan Wheels.
Here is a link to the BMWCar Magazine article:
http://www.discovery-automotive.com/media/BMWmag10_04/bmwmag10_04.htm Today, after additional tuning by Active Autowerke, it makes an additional 40 HP to the rear wheels – mostly due to different tuning, additional heat-reducing measures and the switch to the 8 large injectors instead of the 16 smaller injectors used in the Discovery-Automotive setup.
PERFORMANCE FEATURES Here are some features of the car (all of the modifications were added to the car after about 56K miles): · 653 HP/510 lb/ft (engine has only 30K miles total – 20K since supercharging) · Vortec Supercharger · Active Autowerke Air-to-Air Intercooler · M3 Oil Cooler · Shur Flow Water Injection · Supersprint Headers – ceramic coated · Ceramic-coated Plenum – this makes a huge difference when sitting in traffic. It eliminated the performance-robbing “heat-soak” exhibited by even stock M5s when sitting in traffic idling on a high temperature day · TubiStyle Exhaust · Koala Motorsports 3.15 ring & pinion · 4-wheel Brembos · KW Variant 3 Suspension -- 100% adjustable (height, compression and rebound) · Dinan Mono-Ball lower control arm mounts · Dinan Wheels -- powder-coated to match OEM wheels · Dinan Rear Subframe reinforcement (from Dinan S3) · Dinan Clutch/pressure plate package (from Dinan S3)
POWERTRAIN CONDITION Many of the mechanical components are very close to new. The car had 56K miles when the original conversion process started, but the engine was swapped for a younger one (from a rear-end wreck that only had 9,000 miles on it.) The brakes have only about 25K miles on them and the wheels just a few thousand. The clutch in the car is a Dinan unit with maybe 6,000 miles on it and was engineered for a supercharged M5. Great pedal feel, minimal effort and it holds the power. Attached you will find a compression test that I had Active Autowerke perform 13,000 miles ago. I did that test in preparation to sell the car – that was a year and seven months ago. I have procrastinated all this time avoiding selling this car – but it is time.
INTERIOR/APPEARANCE FEATURES AND OPTIONS The overall interior condition is excellent. There are no tears or cracks in leather on the seats or dash. Here are some more details: · Carbon fiber "see-through" plunum cover ·“Sport” interior with titanium trim · Heated seats · Rear power sunshade · Manual rear-door sun shades · Navigation system with 16x9 format screen · DVD Player and Television Module · “M” sound system with two 10” factory subwoofers · Additional trunk-mounted MB Quart Subwoofer · Flush-mounted XM receiver
EXTERIOR FEATURES AND OPTIONS The overall exterior condition is also excellent. The car has never been involved in an accident and there has been no body work, nor are there any dings or dents. There are a few chips which are expected in a 2001 car. The hood had to be repainted since heat vents were installed. When that was done I also had the whole front bumper repainted to eliminate chips from 7 years of driving on the road. Here are some other details:
· The wheels are Dinan, but I had them powder-coated “Shadow Chrome” to match the color of the OEM M5 wheels. I felt this was a more modern look that the polished lip, painted center of the standard Dinan Wheels. I also added BMW Roundels to the wheel centers. · As mentioned above, the hood has two heat extracting vents designed to keep under hood temperatures as low as possible to maintain a consistent performance level – even when driving in hot Florida traffic. This car is a subtly-style one-of-a-kind daily driver that rides comfortably, is simple to maintain and is fassst! Whoever ends up with this M5, will be driving a car that rides very nicely (not too hard with a 100% adjustable suspension), is relatively quiet considering the headers and exhaust (much quieter in fact than other M5s I’ve heard that had different brands of mufflers even though those cars didn’t have headers) and one that has an awesome sound from behind – kind of reminds me of an old V-12 Ferrari and I absolutely love to hear it driving under overpasses.
Most people read the supercharged badge on the back and stare at it if you are next to them at a light. They’ll point, give you the thumbs up – but you can just tell that they know to respect it. You will literally feel like you are special when you drive it. I went a recent Poker Run with my local BMWCC chapter (CFBMW) and it was as if it was a rock star. People took pictures and asked about it non-stop. Having said all of that, you should also know that this is a car that you can drive every day. Right now, I barely use it – sometimes on weekends and that is about it, which is why I’m selling it.

Thanks -- I am hoping so too. It really depends on when you list. If there are buyers then, it will move. Tough ecomony right now, so who knows!

Quick question about the ceramic coated plenum...how much did it cost you?

Am I the only one that thinks this would be a helluva buy? I mean, how much cheaper could such a unique car get??? I can see someone putting another 10K miles on it and listing it a few years from now for more $$...
<---- turns sofa cushions over to search for extra $49,500...
