M5 TRACK DAY/MEET – THIS IS AN ATTEMPT FOR A NORTHERN (UK) M5 GROUP

If you're like me, perhaps you've found the M5 a bit of a loner when it comes to everyday driving. Finding like minded contenders/pedigree cars is limited to a small minority.

The chance of sharing this moment, on a quiet sundusk eve with an empty A road, is equal to winning the loto. Listening to your wife/partner all weekend, and pulling your weight all week with work, leaves you in a pondery when faced with that A road. Scaring your wife/partner to *****, just because you feel like letting your hair down doesn't gel to well, especially if you have kids in the back. Nor does it bond well with responsibilities etc when you finally get home. But leave it too long, and your craving to stretch the legs gets too much.

Then someone mentioned track days, and then someone introduced me to this site.

So here I am, an M5 driver who lives in York. A very select car, with a select customer. The chance of meeting another M5 member close to me is possible, but pretty doubtful. So this thread is an attempt to try organise a northern group (UK). Not sure if this includes Scotland, but it’s not excluded. If a northern group already exists – not meaning to stand anyone’s toes – but I’ve searched for it and not found anything.

Also, not been a regionalist here, Southerners are more than welcome, it’s just the distance thing. Since there's a southern group, it makes sense to make a northern group?

Any members out there interested?

My first thoughts are 100 miles radius of York - not set in stone. Depends on how far members are willing to travel.

I'm especially interested in an open track day meet up - mainly as I have an XMAS present to use, not picked a track yet, but open to suggestions.

My cars completely stock, and this would be my first run on a track. I also have no interest in stuffing my car, if you've done it a few times fair enough, I’m very interested to hear what works. If you’re really serious about it, that’s fine too, but I'm bad looser, so don't expect me to be taking it too seriously.

Open to suggestions, hopefully there’s a few us up north, even if I find 1 fellow member, that’s good enough to start with.

Get in touch

P.S I'm interested in doing that northern run to Scotland some time, can't recall the A roads, but it's featured a lot in journals. Post some suggestions

regards

Re: M5 TRACK DAY/MEET – THIS IS AN ATTEMPT FOR A NORTHERN (UK) M5 GROUP

Welcome aboard

You really need to get hold of members in the north of the UK for this.

I know member Timray is up in Yorkshire with his green M5.

Have a look through the list here and try sending some PM's to members in your area to guage the interest:

How many UK members are there on M5board?

You could also try at following site which is more UK focused:

http://www.bm5w.co.uk/

Best of luck

Re: M5 TRACK DAY/MEET – THIS IS AN ATTEMPT FOR A NORTHERN (UK) M5 GROUP

Good idea. And a run to Scotland, yum...

For your first track day you should consider the BMW Car Club Better Driving Day at Croft on Monday, July 25. This is very well organised, with as much free tuition as you want, and every year about a third of the entrants are novices. It's just up the road from you, too.

See Better Driving Days Forum. Regards,
