E34 M5 meeting 5. - 7. September 2003 Central European Alpes

Hi E34 M5 driver

As the this year's E34 M5 meeting in Switzerland was a great success, we plan a new even bigger meeting for 2003.

Below you can find the first 2 newsletters.

If you have any question, comment or want to subscribe to the meeting, please feel free to contact me by email (hzweifel@web.de).

First newsletter has been sent in August 2002:
1. Date of the meeting
The meeting starts officially on Saturday, the 2nd of September 2003 in Berchtesgarden (D).
Most (or all) of the participants will arrive during Friday, the 1st of September 2003 as we depart quite early on Saturday.
It ends officially on Sunday, the 3rd of September 2003 in Samnaun (CH)/Andermatt (CH).
Most of the participants will stay over night until Monday morning as Samnaun/Andermatt are quite deep in the Alps.

2. Types and boundary of cars
This will be a only E34 ///M5 meeting.
Because of organizational reasons, the maximum number of cars at this meeting will be limited to 20.

3. The route
Saturday, 02.09.2003:
From Berchtensgarden (D), we drive thourgh Austria to Fondo (I). The highlights are: Grossglockner Hochalplenstrasse (2506), Passo di Giau (2233), Passo Mendola (2116)
Sunday, 03.09.2003:
From Fondo (I) we have still two possibilties debating
One final place could be Andermatt (CH), the other Samnaun (CH)
Details will follow in the next newsletter

4. subsription
The subscription ends on Wednesday, the 30th April of 2003 23:59
The subscription fee is EUR 200.- and will be payed back after the end of the meeting.

5. Hotels
The organization committee will book the hotel rooms after the end of subscriptions date for all participants.
The rooms, all menus and drinks have to be payed by every participant of its own.
For the dinners, an overall menu will be reserved at the hotels/restaurants for an reasonable price.

6. rules
Every car must have a mobile and give the mobile number to the organization committee (OK)
Every car must have a detailed road map and every driver has to know the route
Every car must reach any check point defined by the OK
Every car must call the OK, if problems occur
Every driver must sign a disclaimer before the depart in Berchtesgarden
This is not a racing meeting, but a "friends of E34 M5" meeting
All the route is on official roads, so we share them with other cars and we have to drive within the legal rules

7. Further information
For pictures and documentation of our last meeting, please find some links in the discussion group
Next newsletter will follow before end of 12.2002.

Second newsletter as of December 2002:
Hi M5 driver

The organisation committee has had a second meeting and here is the news:

1. Changes of the routes
Because the first day was planned to long in distance, we decided to start
in Zell am See (Austria) instead of Berchtesgarden (Germany) on Saturday,
the 6th of September 2003. We will drive/cruise to Fondo (Italia), taking
several of the most impressive passes. On Sunday we are going to start in
Fondo and drive to Davos (Switzerland) instead of Samnaun or Andermatt
(Switzerland), because some participants would like to drive home on Sunday
evening, and Samnaun is to deep in the Alpes. Andermatt has been the finish
place this year already.

2. Opening for other BMWs
As we will arrive in Davos in the early afternoon on Sunday, we can meet
there some other BMW car drivers, that would like to join us for line up
and trips.

3. Diversa
Only E34 M5 and E34 B10 can subscribe to this meeting.
All other rules and decisions of the 1st newsletter keep valid.
If you lost the first newsletter, you can order it by contacting me under
hzweifel@web.de.
By now, 8 cars have been subscribed to the meeting 2003.

The next newsletter will follow at the end of February 2003.

If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me by email.

Best regards
Hermann Zweifel
for the E34 ///M5 meeting 2003 OK

Hello Ashok,

Although I really like the idea of an all out M5 driving event like the one we organize at the moment, the financial risks and the organization effort would be too large.

We only have the period of June till mid September to drive the highest passes in the Alps. Before this period, for instance the Stilfserjoch and Timmelsjoch are still closed and after this period, the risk of snow is too high. This means that we have to organize this event within the holiday season which is not easy as most hotels are allready booked by traffic organizations. With more then 35 persons, it would be difficult to find a hotel in this period that has the free capacity for such a large group.

That is why we have set a maximum to the no. of participating cars. It's not that we don't want to, but more a limitation to keep the logistics within control and to allow the members of the OK to participate in the event also.

With best regards,

Raymond Woertman (Fellow member OK E34 M5 meeting 2003)
