Sergio, how could I not be happy with that outcome in the S3's first ever outing at the 1/4mile - 12.3 @117. Props to Harry for his most excellent driving. I knew I wouldn't be able to do anything close to what he achieved and wanted to see what the S3 was capable of doing. BTW the car weighed in at 4020 lbs on the track scale.

You should scan your best slips and send them to dragtimes for posting. Did Harry actually run a 12.3 @ 117 on his first pass in your car? That is a great way to start.

I'd love to see how she runs with a 3.45 rear. Not sure where on the track Harry had to shift into 4th, but I can't imagine changing out to a 3.45 is going to require an extra shift before the traps. You should be good.

Again, Ray, that car is awesome. I still have a sweet spot in my heart for the E39 M5, the car I wanted badly but couldn't afford to buy in 2001.

And Sylvio/Sergio understands.

I still have to shift into 3rd with the stock 3:15, so beeing the S3 has a centrifigual supercharger and makes full boost at near redline, the 3:45 is much better for max power and accelaration
I think with the 3:45 it should trap between 118-120mph

First of all i wish i can be there with all you guys sounds like you guys had a blast. I am however, puzzled. Was it the drivibility that hindered the s3 performance because i thought an s3 is easily a mid 11's car. I ran 12.7 at 113mph on my s2 and have not ran it since some other power mods i have since done. I am guessing 12.6 at 113-115mph. Hopefully the s3 can definetely show the e55 who the boss is in the future. Practice makes perfect!

Mike

Mike, dont forget the car run with the stock 3:15 rear and not the Dinan 3:45

beeing the S3 has a centrifigual supergharger and makes full boost(6psi) near redline, it will fare much better with the 3:45

Ummm... S3 First Time 1/4 Mile Runs

Mike,

In addition to the previously mentioned shifting problems, plus having the wrong differential gearing for the 1/4 mile there's one other factor that should be considered in evaluating the S3's performance last Saturday at Englishtown. This was the very first time at the drags with the S3 and we did this on the spur of the moment. All things considered, I'm very satisfied with the 12.375 ET and a nearly 117 mph terminal velocity for this, our very first outing

Once we fix the shifting problem, the S3 will almost assuredly be in the 11's with a good launch. If we go with drag radials and 3.45 gearing I believe we could begin to see ET's in the mid 11's. Additionally water/methanol intercooler injection and spraying cooling water or nitrous (yes nitrous) on the intercooler to cool the intake charge even more will produce additional HP.

Ray
