Sept 9th DFW German Auto Airport Meet-n-Greet

Calling all 'M' Owners!

Prepare for the first installment of the DFW German Auto Airport shootout. I have secured a closed 7,000 foot runway for September 9th (the Sunday after Labor day) for the entire day.

I go on Wednesday of this week check out the runway and drive it to determine how much of the 7,000' is actually usable and in good working condition. The airport Director says about 4,000+ is good. I figure if we can get at least 4,500-5,000 feet we can get a good 3/4 of a mile run and use the rest for stopping distance.

I will report my findings after I see the actual runway in person and give my deposit to the Director on Wednesday.

For those of you in the TOLA area (TX, OK, LA, and AR), or any other state if you'd like to drive over, please reply to this thread so I can start getting an idea of how many m5board.com members to expect. Also, please indicate if you'll be bringing any additional guests. I would like to have the event catered for all attendees. The location is near Sherman, TX (north of Dallas by 60 miles).

Once I give my deposit on Wednesday I will post on mbworld.org and 6speedonline.com for the other two German car lines to join in the festivities.

Thank you,

Darren

Maybe "Texas" ~ Jim and his newly built Dinan S3 can make it. I believe he is in Amarillo. How far is that from where you will be?

It will be a decent hike, but should be some good fun if he doesn't have anything better going on that weekend.

Be sure he knows about it if you don't mind Chris.

Thanks,

Darren

WHat is the max runway length, is 7000 feet usable?

4000 is definetly not good enough. More than 2500 meters is prefeered. If we can get that Ill be happy to come down and to help film and organize it.

What about any dry lake in Nevada or Texas area and maybe for October nowemvber when it is cooler?

Gustav,

We're not going to be able to use all 7,000 feet and therefore we'll dial back the runs to accommodate the actual runway space we have. Even with 4,000+ feet we'll be able to do much more than just a basic 1/4 mile run. This is much farther than most people get in the USA anyway.

It will still be fun, but we'll need to do it with safety and boundaries in mind. For this first meet you probably won't be able to make it due to the fact it's just around the corner (only 3 weeks away). We should be able to cover it just fine. We can plan something bigger if you'd like to join in later in the fall season.

I'll have a better idea of exactly how much we have to work with after I meet with the airport Director on Wednesday.

Cheers,

Darren
