My guess would be the new Grand Cherokee SRT 8. It has 420 hp and puts it down to the tarmac through Jeep's Quadra drive 4 wheel drive system. I would compare it to a very big WRX. In the rain I hate to say it but you didn't stand a chance and worse yet they literal paid half of what you had to shell out. Buy one if you can and wait till spring to let the M shine.

Back when I used to road race my 750(m/c) in the rain( I load up when it rains now), I remember braking with the best of them, cornering better than most, but once upright on the straight, I would spin the rear tire up thru 5th! The 250s would march right by...

Between snow tires and a wet surface...more traction and less HP will prevail!

While there may be 600 HP cherokees around. the likelihood is low.

Wait until people start slapping those GSM superchargers ($6k) on. They'll be scary fast for a big SUV.

Forget that thing, get a Subaru Legacy wagon or a Forester GT turbo. A few mods, and you'll smoke that Jeep while carrying just as much cargo.

Strictly by the numbers the 06 M-5 as tested by U.S. magazines has a lot better numbers than the 06 Grand Cherokee SRT 8 ; 0-60, 1/4 mile, 0-150(by a couple of miles on this one), and even with snow tires it should be clear the M-5 shouln't take a back seat. Trust me it's not the M-5. Reaction time ? Proper launch? Practice, practice, practice !!

I used to drive a 99 Grand Cherokee 4.7L, and in adverse conditions I used to pull man different cars off of stoplights. Those things launch like crazy from a standstill, and in the dry it was hard for a lot of cars to pull on it. From 30mph in the dry on I would lose, but in the wet it took a lot longer for most sports cars to catch back up. Quadra trac II makes launches easy as heck.

I have a 2002 GC with the 4.7, an exhaust, intake and 4.56 years (it's lifted with 32's). It's SCARY fast for a big lifted truck - especially in the wet. Does 0-60 in about 6.8 seconds and I have smoked some cars that did't suspect anything. Took out a guy in an Acura RSX who kept looking over at me like "How is this Jeep pulling me????". If it's wet out it doesn't slip a tire while a high HP RWD car may sit there spinning uncontrollably.

Actually I've got to agree on this with you. I've got a 2000 GC 4.7 and that thing is just incredibly fast, especially from 0-50km/h. There is nothing by far what can do better launch from the standstill. Even a Cayenne Turbo didnt beat me on a stop light, it started to pull after about 60km/h....

GMBALL,
It's called "REACTION TIME", professional drag racers practice on it all the time, there is even a software for it for your computer. A good "hardware" (whatever car) cannot correct a "software" (reaction time, proper launch!). Even a Ferrari Enzo cannot help you with your reaction time!!
