The Ruf R Turbo, whats everyones thoughts on this beast?

The Ruf is in my opinion "the" car at the moment, as it combines the even speed than the GT2 and the practicality of the Turbo. However I would love to hear everyones views on it. Is the extra $ worth it for the engine upgrade. Will the car hold its value when the 997 is released late next year? An who else thinks those alloys are just beaut?

all the best

I doubt it has the handling and light-weight of a GT2. How much warranty does RUF give with their cars?

In the U.S., service would be a problem, since RUF has no dealers, do they?

Adam, after seeing it in person this past May at the Gumball send-off, I've been in love with that car. From time to time, I view that EVO PCOTY VCD and watch the Ruf Turbo R bit over and over again. Forgive my ignorance, but how much is an engine upgrade to the Ruf TR from a standard TT? I would imagine it's not a cheap upgrade, so this brings me to another question. Does one really need that extra edge over the already superb performance of the TT? If money is no object then I would say go for it given its a very unique model, but then a 575M or Murcielago just looks as tempting in that price range.

here are two pics from the NY Gumball send-off:

I agree with you wholeheartedly in regards to the rims. One of the most beautiful I've seen thus far especially in a chrome shadow trim similar to that on the M5/M3.

I remember reading about this car awhile back and the article stated that the R turbo actually uses the Carrera body, not the Turbos. So does the owner buy a Turbo and have them change the body or does the owner buy a Carrera and have the engine swapped? Nice car either way, those wheels are gorgeous.

RUF is in a different league than almost any porsche tuner out there.

All their cars a warranteed....but this is Europe mostly. Dont know what there policies on full conversions are....because they seem to be more and more involved with the american market.

All "real" RUFs use the narrow body Carrera...because of aerodynamics. I have a narrow bodied 911....uses turbo flares that are tapered down to the body at the bottom( turbo on top....carrera on the bottom). (Also the 993 Techart is a narrow body as well). Having said that.... I LOVE the look of the turbo flares.....this is a necessity on the 996....to undue the hideous streamlined body!! IMO

All RUF conversions are rewelded....usually incorporating roll bars into the a and b pillars.

I would not doubt the quality of their cars...RUF takes their cars VERY SERIOUSLY!! For sure these new R TURBOS are amazing!!!! If I had the opportunity I would get one of these in a HEARTBEAT!!!!
GO FOR IT!!!!! THIS CAR IS AMAZING!!!!!!!! (from what I have heard)

(ps.....stay tuned for upcoming porsche purchase soon -thats all I am going to say!!! )

Its 20 grand to do the conversion in germany...but then you need the spoiler and wheels..its quite expensive but I heard what all youguys have...they are the real deal..

On the performance side of things...well it will accelerate to 62mph in 3.7 seconds. However this time is for the 2WD version of the car. We would go for the 4WD version. 100 comes up in 7seconds top speed 205 (we wouldnt getting the higher 6th gear)
The turbo is low 4s to 60 and mid 9s to 100 top speed of 185

Basically my pa is very interested, a little cautious and we just want to find out all the info possible...

Thanks for the messages
all the best

errr.......

Possibly an irrellevence, if you can afford the car, but the re-sale is next to impossible.
The fact that Porsche allow RUF to take off the Porsche Badging and put on RUF badges says it all...!!!
