Now what do YOU guys think on that...?

Hi folks,

I've had an interesting discussion on a Mercedes-Forum about the 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo Tip and the 2008 SL65, BOTH CARS BEING BONE STOCK!

What do you guys think? Which one is quicker on the 1/4-mile? What's the real-time difference in the 0-60 times and the better performance-car in general?

Edmunds quoted the 911 Turbo about 0.5 sec. FASTER than the SL65 on the 1/4-mile but the guys on the MB forum are basically telling me Edmunds is just BS and would not be the right source and that the 911 would only see the tail-lights of the 65 in 9 out of 10 times on the 1/4-mile run.

In addition, the time Edmunds quoted the 911 (11.6 sec.) wouldn't be a real-world time and that it would only be capable of running times in the 12s.

However, I have the impression that the folks on the MB-board are (surprisingly) somewhat biased towards the SL - so I'd like to hear the other side of the story...

Thanks in advance!

Someone in Brazil just did a run, 997TT vs. CL65

http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php...ge=0&fpart=all

I understand he was saying the 997TT was faster than the CL65.

Eric, thanks for your input.

Too bad it is a comparison with the CL and not the SL65. The CL is def. too heavy to catch the 911TT.

997TT will have the better/lower ET as the 65 is a pig with poor traction but the SL65 will trap a little higher mph- 604bhp and 737lb/ft has its benefits.

Thank you very much. If I got you right, that would support the numbers Edmunds.com published on these cars. According to them, the Porsche reaches the 1/4-mile quicker, SL65 has the higher speed at that moment:

1/4 mile 2007 SL65 : 12.1 sec. @ 119.4 mph
1/4 mile 2007 911TT : 11.6 sec. @ 118.5 mph

I was a bit "surprised" by the folks on the benz-forum, stating the 911 TT would see the "tail-lights" of the SL65 in 98% of 1/4-mile races.

So I guess - and according to you - the numbers (or at least the trend) Edmunds.com published are quite solid.

I also argued that it should be easier to get a decent launch on a 911 TT due to its AWD and that the SL65 does have some traction-issues. Oh yes, they disagreed as well..

Glad I could be of help. There are a lot of fanboys out there for all marques so the MB boys sticking up for the 65 doesn't surprise me. It's a quick car but like the M5 is best from a roll.
