Just a suggestion for you.
Pretty interesting idea. What did you use to fill the tray with? As far as i know telephone armrests and euro slide/tilt ones are identical in height (unless you add extra padding).

Not a bad idea but then you don't have a cubby hole for storage or do you have a solution to that?

installing the Euro armrest is not that hard and the extra functionality is well worth "spending time" (if you can call the 1 extra minute -->"spending time") for the the two nuts that makes the difference on install. Plus dealing with covering the armrest, filling the tray making another tray and so on is way more intensive than replacing the part not to talk about staying OEM. Yes you might be able to save 20$ but I thought we are driving real cars not penny saving Priuses. BTW I got my armrest from Removed. and it is excellent quality blending with my black interior seamlessly.

Good decisions are the result of experience; experience is the result of bad decisions...

If i remanufactured US armrest (telephone one) the price would be much higher than OEM Euro ones in Leathertte. I am talking about taking telephone armrest filling the phone hole, or fitting a storage tray instead of phone and upholstered it with genuine leather + extra padding. Everything would sum up to 180-230$ shipped. The same what OEM Euro one made in gen. leather + padding would cost. I can do them, but i don't see the point, unless you want the little storage tray instead of big one which EU. unit provides. Please tell me what i am missing here.

I used an insulation foam that is typically used around replacement windows and trimmed it to fit, covered with a cotton batting and then with a leather cover. I didn't care about the storage; I simply hated hitting my arm on the useless plastic phone tray.

The US armrest is fatter than the Euro one even before the batting, just as the US dash has an additional 3" of foam above both the driver's and passenger's knees (which I swapped out for the European dash in my sedan).

Given the extra work, maybe this would not be a money maker for you; I just thought I would toss it out.

Well, since i am in Europe, we don't have Thicker armrests here like US spec e39's do. Only thing i can do is: extra padding (to achieve the thickness of US phone armrest) and cover EU one in leather.

But this is a great idea for people who likes to do things DIY style

If that's not a "Classified" info. How much did you pay for Euro dash swap?

Yes, it is probably much simpler for you to merely offer a bit of padding as an option. Cotton batting from a sewing supply store is inexpensive and works well, although getting a smooth finish around the handle in the front may be a concern.

In many ways the Euro versions of the e39 are superior. I hated hitting my arm on the useless US phone tray; the Euro side mirrors provide far better visibility in traffic than the US spec mirrors, The Euro M5 floating rotors dissipate heat better and the US dash eats up leg room and doesn't line up with the doors. I've changed all this stuff over time.

The Eurodash was not cheap. Dave Zeckhausen helped me with my install. See here: Eurodash

Thousand bucks just for a couple of dash pieces?! Well I didn't expect that. These are brand new right?
I can get a set just under $650 Shipped or what do these run for on forums? Probably going to put one for sale in a couple of weeks.
