Arrow Re: Dyno Numbers

Ryan - Great work on the headers; they look amazing!

On a practical note, I'm extremely interested in buying these headers. However, the only reservation I have (no offense), is the lack of dyno data illustrating actual performance (hp/torque) gains.

If someone who has installed these headers can post a pre- and post-dyno, I'm certain that would win over many of us that are on the fence.

Again, no offense; the quality of your work speaks for itself!

Thanks!

Hey Docs -- I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the pre-post Dyno. Maybe I can find a Dyno shop here in Austin that I can do it at. But at $50-70 a pop, and requiring two sessions, I'm not sure I can justify laying out the extra cash, not to mention inconvenience.

Anyway, Ryan's design is basically the same as what Evolve and RPI do -- take a stock header, cut out the primary cat, weld in a straight pipe with a collector/funnel. I figure the gains should be similar to what Evolve and RPI advertise, and slightly better than what you get when you chip out the cat material as others on the Board have done. You can look at the Evolve header in the picture at the link below, and compare to Ryan's pictures, and you'll note they look the same (Ryan's actually look better to my eye -- better welds, and cleaner metal). While looks aren't the be all and end all, for 40% of the price, and recognizing that the vast majority of the gain comes from removing the cat, you are getting good value for money. Maybe Evolve or RPI squeeze out a few hp more (if so, I'm not sure how), but I can't see how a few hp is worth the cost difference.

See Evolve Race header here: Race / Race-R / RS Headers

That's my thought process. And whether I dyno or not, I'll make sure to post a write-up once Ryan sends me the headers and I get them installed.

Well stated JBond.

Mine arrive tomorrow and I will be doing a dyno run before and after. I will also do a third run after my Evolve E-Venturi intake shows up as well. Keep in mind that this will be performed with a (before header) Alpha-N tune and after the header install it will be with a Alpha-N stage 3 tune.

Chill -

You and I will have the same set-up. My Evolve intake is on order as well. Should be interesting to see how our cars compare. I'm on the fence about doing the dyno runs, as I'm spending a bunch of cash on the intake/RMS header/install, but I am curious to know the gains....

I currently run a non-Alpha N Evolve Stage 2 tune. On the fence about whether it's worth it to pay for the Alpha N, as despite reading all of the threads, I cannot convince myself what the benefit is, other than "throttle response."

You should consider adding the RDSport Sways to your set-up. The Sways with the H&R springs had a noticable performance handling increase. I installed the Sways about a year after the springs, and while handling increased, the ride quality did not degrade.

RDSport sway bars are on my short list.

Headers showed up today and everything looks fantastic!!!
