So the thing to remember with the E9x is that they use a non-acoustic knock sensor. Basically from what I understand the voltage is measured across the sparkplug to determine misfire. I think this is where Gintani and some others doing the E9x engine messed up. The same is for the E85 - I think that is why people run special and expensive plugs for those cars when they SC them. Lots to learn on those engines.
