Winter Set-Up Is On: M6 Wheels and Blizzaks

Just had my winter wheels and tires put on. I have to say, I really like the way the M6 style wheels look. I had seen a few pictures and couldn't get a good feel for the look, but live and in color, they look great (IMHO). I am thinking that, after the winter, I may switch my summer tires to these wheels and use the stock wheels for my winter set-up.

Now for the dose of BMW service idiocy. When I picked up the car, I checked to see if the TPM was functioning. It was. Of course, a few minutes later I get the "TPM Malfunction" warning. I check the air pressure in the tires and rest the system (a few times) to no avail. When I get home, I call my SA and he says, "Yeah, those wheels don't have the monitors in them. I was going to tell you, but I didn't see you when you picked up the car." Bottom line is that they charge $40/wheel to do the install and remount and balance the tires. I told him that I want to come in first thing one morning and have them do it while I wait and, by the way, I expect a credit for the 1/2 hour of service they charged me to switch the wheels today. Is it really too much to expect him to tell me this when he called during the day, so I could have had it taken care of today without this silly duplication of effort and waste of my time? For those of you who don't know me that well, that is a rhetorical question.

Yeah I'm up in studio looking at the M5Board lolol. Sucks about your dealer not letting you know about the monitors not being on those wheels

Sometimes I wonder about those SA's. Anyways the car looks really good.

i think the m5 looks better with m6 wheels and the m6 looks better with the m5 wheels but only when the m5 wheels are powder coated black,looks awsome!

Looks great Andrew. Absolutely switch out your summer tires when the time comes. These look much better than the M5 wheels. Sorry about your service woes.

How's the ride on the Blizzaks? I'm changing out my wheels when I get the car back from the body shop.

So, do they in fact have monitors? Or is he going to disable the TPM system? And, do you mind saying where you got the wheels and tires?

Just read your woes about the tire monitors. The good news is that there are not any tire monitors in the wheels. The tire monitoring system is based upon the ABS and another sensor in your suspension. THERE ARE NO MONITORS IN THE WHEELS. I know this because I asked numerous times and was told the same thing. I also picked up new wheels that were already mounted and balanced and put straight on the car.

To reset the flat tire indicator, you need to reset the computer. You go to car settings, and then the program for flat tire monitor. Then you "reset" tire pressure. Make sure you also reset your SMG. I hope this works and don't let anybody sell you on "tire" monitors swap labor.

There are no tire monitors in the wheels. Reset the tire pressure in the TMP.
