Awaiting my new car

Cannot wait to show off my car when it gets here. crying:

2003 M5, carbon black, black interior.. naturally standard (for now) but looking for the right mods to get her to be a "one of a kind".

your M5 must be one of the last cars to be productionized from Germany as Jan 2003 was down as the decommissioning phase of the M5 production line.

Production line is being prep'ed up for the new M5 due out Q1 2004.

Welcome to the board I also await a January build Carbon beast, so I know how you feel. It sure helps to have this board around while we're waiting, though

There are a few dealers in the NY area that are telling people here that there will not be a new body style M5 and that BMW is moving away from the 4 door M style cars. Much like the old style M3 that came in a 4 door and now is only available as a coupe / convertible.

I still hold out for the new one.. but will enjoy the new one very much I am sure

Frank Midnight Blue is not an option here in the US.. perhaps it's a color for other markets? Not sure... We get the Le Mans blue which is a nice color.

I like the CBlack because under differing light conditions it has different shades in it.

The other color I looked at was Sterling Grey... but that is too close to the Steel Grey color of my wifes X5..

When is your car due to be delivered? It would appear that we are getting some of the last few M5's off the line... One of the other contributors emailed me saying that according to him, BMW is tooling up for the E60 body style..

Do you know whenthe last E39's are being built.. My dealer tells me that there will still be deliveries into the US for the current body style until approx August 03.. then the switch into the E60's will come for Sept 03.. Is the UK market different?

I just called my guy in Germany and he says production has "not" seized so you are indeed correct in stating the US can still get E39's well into 2003.

Since I was on the phone and I already asked the group if there was any further news on the new M5, my guy says the new M5 won't be represented in the Frankfurt motorshow however it will become available mid 2004 for sure.

Over the next few months there will be spy shots of the new M5 speeding on BMW's racetracks (test runs) I'm told if the new M5 doesn't kill the Mercedes by at least a further 50Bhp everyone in M division will resign.

So get ready for 550Bhp !!!!

Not sure about you gents in the US but I placed a 5000Euro deposit just to get my name on the list for the new M5.

That's the beauty of the US.. here we can leave a $500 deposit at most dealers.. some will require a $2,000 deposit for the M cars so that try's to prevent unwanted "book building" by the same guy looking to flip the hotcars on Ebay..

Doesn't really discourage the true buyer of course, which is good.

As for 550hp, well that is awesome. Almost tells me the car will be heavier than it is already. The E55 put on a few pounds if I am not mistaken.. one needs a few extra horses to get off the line in a hurry..
