Another new M5 owner/boardmember!

Hello all !

After dreaming of owning one myself for years, while at the same time thinking it'd probably never happen (life has a tendency to go way different than you've planned) I'm finally able to turn that very dream into reality.

Seven days ago I picked up my first, own, rare but very real E39 M5, which on more accounts than one isn't "just a car", as you all no doubt know. I learned that (among lots of other things) while I was still lurking here and boy, isn't that the truth!

She is one of the early pre-facelift Euro models (built december 1998), and received her license plates on februari 1999. She is Carbonblack with full leather Caramel interior, aluminum trim and Antracite Alcantara headlining.

I haven't pulled a detailed list at the dealer yet but some options are electric rear window shade and PDC. I'm planning to keep her stock, i.e not converting her to a 01 facelift model. However, at some point her PO updated her nav system to a 16:9 screen and a MKIV DVD drive, an upgrade I'm very pleased with from a practical point of view. Also, the PO opted for not having the rear deck spoiler. I'm inclined to install one later on because I believe it "belongs" on an M5, but I'm not sure yet (I'm open to suggestions!).

At the age of almost 11 she is in very good shape, both mechanically and cosmetically. But she is used, not mint. That's not a bad thing but it's time for some TLC. She could do with a full detailing job including a leather treatment, the wheels look really terrible and have to be painted or powdercoated.

Needless to say, I,m over the moon. I have more to share but I'll save that for another topic. I haven't been able to shoot some pics of her myself but here are a few back from the time she was up for sale.

If you haven't fell asleep at this point and still reading this, thanks for your patience!

I love your enthusiasm for the car! We were all there when we picked up our Beasts, whether new or used. I know I was. She looks like she's in great condition for a 10+ year old car, even the interior. I agree with you that the spoiler belongs on the back, it looks naked without it.

Welcome to the board! Hide your wallet b/c you'll want to buy all sorts of stuff once you start spending time on here...muahahaha.

Its not factory, but it looks trully awesome. The only thing I would do now to that interior would be to replace the centre phone for a normal full leather armrest (or put the iPhone mount) and put the 2001 Steering Wheel.

It would be perfect
