Does anyone know if there's any way at all that outsiders like myself (being all the way on the other side of the country) can help in any way at all? I stopped watching CNN and whatnot, so I'm not entirely sure where things are, but I can't imagine that the rescue effort is moving along without problems and that to me is priority number one. As I'm not terribly qualified (I know cpr) to fly out there and help, is there anything ordinary people like myself can do from here?
hey bob,
i myself also tried to get into NY last night to try to help in the cause, to no avail. My wife donated blood, she is 0 something, all the blood banks are on full alert here. I think donations are being taken from the red cross i believe. I think the rest is to show your support for the fallen and pray for them.

I know what you mean, even more of a helpless feeling over here, I feel that I want to get on a plane and come over, even if I have to use my 'bare hands' to clear rubble etc.
I tried to contact rescue services over here to see if they are going over, either as a volunteer or something, anything but they are not.
This has changed my outlook completely, and this even means a change in my career to reflect this, it will be interesting to see what's round the corner.
How do you mean a change in you career, Andy? Please elaborate and thanks for the thoughts and gestures - I'm sure it means a lot not only to myself but to the many people directly involved.

Yes, I agree if everyone buys just a little... it will help keep the market up. I also heard on the news that many american companies are going to buy whether it goes up or down. If enough people buy, it will not fall as hard, if not maybe even go up.
