Is this a good deal? (used Valentine One)
I came across this locally, is this a good deal or should I just pay extra to have a new one?
Valentine1 Version 1.7 with hardwire kit (no cigarette lighter adapter). 2nd gen body, flawless condition. $250
Thanks in advance.

That is a good price for a used unit (new $400.00), but I would go to the Valentine One site and check out its serial number.
That will tell you what version it it.
They charge around $50.00 to update the software.
Here is the site:

Am I a V-1 believer? I have a dedicated unit in each of our four cars.

Thanks for the info.
He doesn't think it's ever been updated. If he's right, is it still a good price?
I'm going to run the serial numbers today.

I've had mine for 14 years without a problem so I'm assuming it's a durable product. So if you want to save $150, I say go for it.

Does it come with the hard wire harness, visor clip, suction clip and lighter adapter for power?
If so, I'd buy it and send it in for the update as you'll end up $100 to the positive. If the other items are not included, I'd check the V1 site for the cost to replace the other items and make the decision from there.

Make sure you get his original receipt of purchase or a copy.
I've had detector manufacturers get snippy about units sent in without the proof or original purchase if you didn't buy it from them yourself.

I believe the only upgrade from V1.7 to V1.8 is that 2 band POP was added in V1.8.
If the law doesn't use it in your area, then that is not the issue.
Check out the serial number to check the version and if it is a stolen unit.
As someone else noted too: ask what is included in the sale.
The basic accessories can be rather costly if you buy them seperatly.

I also heard that if you call V1 they may have returns or refurbished units at a discounted price.

Yes, they sell their "30 day return units" for 10% off. You need to call, stock levels are very sporadic...

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.858 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.
